About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers record for the University of Wisconsin-Madison's re-bid solicitation for safety netting at Goodman Softball field (2024-UWMSN-00382-RFB). The solicitation seeks bids for the purchase and installation of safety netting extensions for the existing backstop structure. Bidders are required to submit responses online through the ShopUW+ procurement portal at https://bids.sciquest.com/apps/Router/PublicEvent?CustomerOrg=UWisconsin, with inquiries directed to Dana Casey at dana.casey@wisc.edu. The document does not specify project timeline details, site visit requirements, bidder's conference dates, or contract term information.

Key clarifications provided in the Q&A address engineering requirements and structural analysis responsibilities. UW-Madison clarified that stamped engineering is not required prior to bid submission but reserves the right to request professional engineer review of the proposed netting system if safety concerns arise regarding normal wear and weather resistance. The University confirmed it will not provide geotechnical reports or engineering analyses of existing structures to support additional loading; however, as-built plans of the current backstop net system were made available to bidders to inform their proposals. These specifications establish that bidders bear responsibility for designing systems compatible with existing infrastructure and for ensuring adequate structural capacity.

Questions & Answers Re-bid Safety Netting for Goodman Softball - 2024-UWMSN-00382-RFB

Question 1:

Could you please provide clarification on if this means that the netting extension system needs to have stamped engineering prior to the bid?

Answer 1:

We want to ensure the proposed net system is safe and will withstand normal wear and weather conditions. If we feel the proposed net system may not meet that standard we will ask that an engineer review the proposed net system

Question 2:

Will UW-Madison be providing a geotechnical report? If so, when would those be made available?

Answer 2:

We will not be providing a geotechnical report.

Question 3:

Will UW-Madison be providing an engineering analysis/report on the existing structures to show it will be able to adequately support the additional loading of the proposed netting extensions? If so, when would those be made available?

Answer 3:

We will not be providing an engineer analysis/report but we did provide as-built plans of the current backstop net system.
