About this file
This document contains technical specifications and general requirements for a 275,000 cubic-foot aerostat envelope system designed for deployment at an operational site in Cudjoe Key, Florida. The aerostat must maintain compatibility with all existing infrastructure including the mooring tower, mooring cone, mooring rails and dolly, winch truck system, pad configuration, and the L-88V3 radar payload package, with no modifications permitted to any of these components.
The envelope must achieve an operational displacement of 275,000 cubic feet with physical dimensions of approximately 186.5 feet in length by 62.5 feet in diameter. The system shall provide useful payload lift of 1,000 to 1,300 pounds at launch altitude and operate continuously at 10,000 to 12,000 feet mean sea level with a minimum 14-day station endurance. Wind performance requirements specify continuous operation capability in winds up to 65 knots at various altitudes and survival capability while moored in wind speeds up to 90 knots. The envelope construction must utilize multi-layer engineering laminates comprising an outer environmental barrier, structural load-bearing weave, and high-retention gas barrier, with the outer layer specifically engineered to resist extreme UV degradation, acid rain, fungus, and moisture degradation during prolonged mooring operations.

275K Aerostat Envelope
General Requirements:
Operating Environment: The aerostat shall withstand and operate in a wide variety of weather conditions. System requirements dictate that the aerostat shall operate in winds up to and including 65 knots at various altitudes up to 12,000 feet MSL without structural damage and survive wind speeds up to and including 90 knots while moored.
The aerostat envelope shall be compatible with the existing operational site at Cudjoe Key, Florida. The system shall be constructed that it will fit the existing flying and mooring system with no interface problems or changes. The aerostat envelope shall also properly interface with the payload package (L-88V3 radar) and all airborne equipment.
This requirement mandates that there will be no changes to;
Mooring Tower Mooring Cone Mooring Rails and Dolly Winch Truck System
Pad configuration or layout Payload Package (L88V3) 275K Airborne Support Equipment
Technical Parameters:
Envelope Displacement – 275,000 cubic feet Physical Dimensions (approx.) – 186.5 feet in Length x 62.5 feet in Diameter Useful Payload Lift – 1,000 to 1,300 lbs at launch altitude Operating Altitude – 10,000 to 12,000 feet Mean Sea Level Operational Wind Limit – 65 knots continuous Survival Wind Limit – 90 knots on mooring station Station Endurance – Minimum 14 days continuous flight
Material and Environmental Survival
• The aerostat envelope shall be constructed with multi-layer engineering laminate comprising of an outer environmental barrier, a structural load-bearing weave, and a high-retention gas barrier.
• The aerostat envelope outer layer must resist extreme UV degradation, acid rain, fungus, and Moisture during prolong mooring.
