About this file

This is a product specifications document for Virco's MTS1729 Mobile Stool Tables, which are heavy-duty mobile folding stool tables designed with a 17-inch stool height and 29-inch top height. The tables feature automatic locking mechanisms, safety clearances between table sections, and torsion bar operation for ease of use. Two models are specified: the MTS17291012 with open dimensions of 120 inches long by 58 inches wide, and the MTS17291212 with open dimensions of 144 inches long by 58 inches wide. Both models feature 13-gauge structural steel frames with welded construction, 3/4-inch thick particleboard tops with high-pressure laminate surfacing, round injection-molded ABS stool seats 13 inches in diameter, and 3.5-inch swivel casters with ball bearing raceways and rubber wheels. The specifications include details on frame construction, seat support systems, hinge mechanisms, and available finishes including powder coat and chrome options.

The document outlines optional features including Virco's Sure Edge finish, which consists of a urethane-based protectant with anti-bacterial properties and moisture barrier protection. The tables are available in multiple stool colors and can be customized with various metal finish options. Virco covers the MT, MTB, and MTS Series tables with a 10-year warranty; however, torsion bars are covered under a separate 5-year warranty. Virco recommends storing tables in an upright position when not in use to extend the torque life of the torsion bars and suggests frequent inspections for torque strength. The specifications document was originally issued on February 11, 1997, with the most recent revision dated December 16, 2009.

SPECIFICATIONS

SPECIFICATION NO.: MTS1729 REVISED: 12/16/2009 ECA: 2009-102 ISSUED: 02/11/97

SUPERSEDES: 03/31/2009 Virco reserves the right to change these specifications at any time.

MTS1729 Mobile Stool Tables (17" Stool & 29" Top Height)

Description: These heavy-duty mobile folding stool tables have an automatic locking feature, as well as a safety clearance between table sections to help protect hands during opening. Tables also have a torsion bar for ease of operation, and are free-standing when closed.

Frame: The frame shall consist of 13 gauge structural steel, welded together to form a one-piece construction. The folding mechanism shall be operable with or without tops. The center hinge and all pivot points shall have 3/8" diameter steel bolts with lock nuts.

Top: The top shall be constructed of 3/4" thick, 45lb density particleboard surfaced with a high-pressure laminate and a backing sheet. Edges shall be protected by T-mold banding. The top shall be attached to the frame with #10 sheet metal screws.

Seat: Each seat shall have its own direct-to-floor load-bearing column and provide its own support without the need of cross members running between seats. Each seat shall have its own place to enter and exit. Round stool tops shall be 13" in diameter, injection-molded from a high-impact ABS material and secured to a die-cast aluminum mounting bracket by

(4) 1/4-20 x 5/8 bolts and lock washers. The seat and mounting bracket assembly shall be secured to the column by a 3/8”-16 x 2-1/4” hex bolt and a 3/8”-16 locking nut.

Casters: In the folded position, tables shall rest on four 3-1/2" swivel casters with ball bearing raceways and 1-5/16" wide rubber wheels.

Crutch Tips: Each of the middle legs shall have a 1" rubber crutch tip. The crutch tips shall have steel inserts.

Operation: Tables shall open or close in a single operation, accomplished by a balanced torsion bar construction. Torque to aid in the ease of operation shall be supplied by fully enclosed 3/8" hexagonal heat-treated, aircraft-specified alloy steel bar. Tables shall automatically lock in the open and closed positions. The center hinge shall operate vertically in order to self clean and minimize trapping of food.

Stool Colors: Stools shall be available in a selection of colors.

Optional Sure Edge® Finish: Virco’s custom Sure Edge® finish shall be offered as an option for the table top. The Sure Edge finish shall consist of a urethane-based protectant that is bonded chemically to the substrate of the top. The tamper-resistant Sure Edge finish, applied with an innovative anti-bacterial process for enhanced cleanliness and hygiene, shall function as an effective moisture barrier, which seals the substrate of a top between its high-pressure laminate surface and backing sheet. The Sure Edge finish shall have no gaps or seams, preventing food particles from lodging in table-top edges. To order a mobile stool table with a Sure Edge top finish, add AE to the model number.

Metal Finish: The top support apron shall be available with a powder coat finish. The undercarriage shall be available fully chromed or with an optional powder coat finish.
