STATEMENT OF WORK
Data Support for the NCHS Health Promotion Statistics Branch:
Healthy People 2010 Data Finalization and
Healthy People 2020 Standardization and Quality Control
I. BACKGROUND
Support is required by the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), Office of Analysis and Epidemiology, Health Promotion Statistics Branch (HPSB) for the final quality review, modification and verification of the Healthy People 2010 database, final updates to the revised online edition of the technical compendium (Tracking Healthy People 2010), the pre-web version review and verification of the Healthy People 2010 Final Review publication, and the quality control assessment and standardization of the Healthy People 2020 component of the Health Indicators Warehouse.
Healthy People is a comprehensive, nationwide health promotion and disease prevention initiative. For three decades, Healthy People has provided a comprehensive set of national 10-year health promotion and disease prevention objectives aimed at improving the health of all Americans. It is grounded in the principle that establishing objectives and providing benchmarks to track and monitor progress over time can motivate, guide, and focus action. Healthy People 2010 is comprised of over 900 objectives organized into 28 Focus Areas. The Healthy People 2010 database, DATA2010, is an interactive, on-line database developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS). DATA2010 contains the baseline and tracking data for all measurable Healthy People 2010 objectives. National data are available for all of the measurable objectives. State data are available for a subset of the measurable objectives. Socio-demographic data for population-based objectives are also provided: data are displayed by race and Hispanic origin, gender, and socio-economic status (education or income).
Healthy People 2020 is comprised of 1,200 objectives organized into 42 Topic Areas designed to serve as this decade’s framework for improving the health of all people in the United States. The location of Healthy People 2020 public use indicator data is the Health Indicators Warehouse (HIW) - a new online resource serving as the data hub for the HHS Community Health Data Initiative. It contains the baseline and tracking data for all measurable Healthy People 2020 objectives. In addition to data, the HIW contains other technical information – metadata – related to tracking the Healthy People 2020 objectives. The Healthy People 2020 component of the Health Indicators Warehouse will be updated on a regular basis to provide the most accurate and current data for the Healthy People 2020 objectives. New data and revisions to data previously shown, if necessary, will be added with each update.
