: CLIN 0018; This CLIN shall be used in conjunction with CLINs 14-17 when requested. Typical storm drains on Hawaiiƒ??s Army installations have a gutter with curb throat. Wheel strikes often cause the unsupported curb face to fail. For curb faces that repeatedly fail, fortify and support the curb edge of the manhole cover by installing one horizontal 3 inch square, 9 gauge steel tube that is 2 inches longer on each side than the length of the storm drain. Weld three vertical 1 inch square, 14 gauge steel tubes, equally spaced, to the horizontal steel tube. Weld the bottom of the three vertical steel tubes to a 1-1/4 inch steel plate and anchor the bottom of the tube frame to the roadside edge of the manhole to support tube frame loads of 6000 psf. If necessary demo and / or build up the roadside edge of the manhole using 4000 psi concrete (note that typical precast manholes have min compressive strength of 4000 psi). Weld (tie in) the top of the tube frame to the reinforcing steel of the concrete cover. Weld one piece of 3/8 inch thick angle iron ƒ??fasciaƒ?? to the top of the tube frame. Height of the angle iron shall be 3-3/8 inches or the height of the manhole c over, whichever is greater. Length of the angle iron shall match the length of the top square tube. Width of the angle iron shall be 6 inches minimum or smaller to accommodate location of the manhole cover as needed. Angle iron ƒ??fasciaƒ?? shall be flush with the face and the height of the adjacent curb and manhole cover. All welds shall be full strength fillet weld or similar with weld strength of 4000 psi or greater. Ensure the tube frame is securely fastened to the roadside edge of the manhole and the manhole cover. Exposed materials shall be weather resistant. The materials specified in this CLIN are commercially available; other materials may be substituted or an alternative commercial solution is acceptable provided the potential for repeated curb face failure from tire strike with axel load of approximately 6,000 psf is significantly diminished. Submit shop drawings of design or alternative solution for DPW approval. Minimize restriction of water flow into the manhole iin accordance with Section 01026 of the SOW/Specs (K Work) FOB: Destination
