Background on Wisconsin Automated Vehicle Proving Grounds

In January 2017, the US DOT identified UW-Madison as one of ten automated vehicle (AV) proving grounds for collaboration on research, development, testing, and evaluation (RDT&E). The Wisconsin AV Proving Grounds (WiscAV) mission is to provide a path to public road evaluation by contributing to the safe and rapid advancement of automated vehicle development and deployment, and providing a full suite of test environments, coupled with research, open data, and stakeholder communication.

Post-USDOT official recognition, UW-Madison (www.wisc.edu) and WiscAV (www.wiscav.org) continue to be a leader in the Midwest. Areas of RDT&E have expanded to include automated, connected, electric, and shared vehicle technologies and smart cities.

Description of Request

The University of Wisconsin-Madison plans to purchase an automated shuttle vehicle for use on public and private roads for the purpose of data collection, public engagement, and other research. The vehicle will be operated by staff at the Traffic Operations and Safety Laboratory (TOPS Lab – topslab.wisc.edu) which is a research laboratory within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (www.engr.wisc.edu/department/civil-environmental-engineering) at UW-Madison.

To respond to this request for information, complete the form and provide written responses to the information requested as either a Word document (docx) or PDF file. Applicants may be invited to Madison, WI to give a presentation to the project team. Expenses will be incurred by the respondents to the RFI, and not incurred by the University.
