Requirements / Specifications: Low vibration 50 Kelvin cryocooler with active temperature control

TITLE: Low vibration 50 Kelvin cryocooler with active temperature control Requesting Lab/Division/Group: PML/Div. 688/Opt. Freq. Meas. Group

General Statement of Need A cryocooling solution that is able to deliver 5 watts of cooling power at 50 Kelvin or better. The cryocooler will be used to cool a customer-owned radiation shield located in a customer-owned ultra-high-vacuum system. Low vibrations at the level of 30 nm or less is required at both the cryocooler cold tip and the vacuum mating interface. Temperature stability of at least 100 mK at 50 Kelvin is required at the cold interface, with active feedback control. Low spatial footprint near the ultra-high-vacuum chamber is also required.

Items and/or Ancillary Services

Item 1: Cryocooler with 2.75” CF cold tip interface Quantity: 1 Specifications: ((1)) 5 watts of cooling capacity at 50 Kelvin ((2)) 2.75” CF UHV interface ((3)) Cold tip should be Ultra-high-vacuum compatible and Bake-able up to 200 C ((4)) Cold tip extension inside vacuum space is less than 4” from CF flange face ((5)) Cold tip rigid assembly extension outside vacuum should be minimal to allow for optical access: (a) less than 6” along cold tip axis from CF flange face, (b) less than 15” in a single direction perpendicular to cold tip axis ((6)) Cold head is mechanically/vibrationally isolated from cold tip (for Gifford McMahon (GM) or Pulse Tube (PT) cryocoolers), If vibration isolation is achieved through flexible interface between cold head and cold tip, it should be at least 3 meters in length ((7)) 10 meters or more flexible helium lines between helium compressor and cold head (for GM and PT cryocoolers) ((8)) Helium compressor is air cooled (for GM and PT cryocoolers) ((9)) Cooling capacity should be largely orientation independent, both for the cold tip and the cold head. ((10)) RMS vibration level at the cold tip and the CF mounting flange is less than 30 nm ((11)) Active PID temperature control, with heater mounted on cold tip, provide stable temperature output at the cold tip at any setpoint between 50K to 300K: (a) Temperature control stability at cold tip at 100 mK level or better at 50K and higher (b) Monitor/Controller with 8 inputs (scanned inputs permitted), 4 independent PID temperature control loops, including cold tip loop. (c) Powered heater output for at least 2 loops, power output at least 25 Watts each (d) 4 Cernox™ 1080-HT (calibrated from 20K to 420K) sensors for use on customer-owned radiation shield, cold tip sensor included ((12)) Include installation and training of one lab personnel on cryostat operation.
