STATEMENT OF WORK

1) BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Rocky Mountain Labs, Research Technologies Section, Electron Microscopy Unit supports NIAID investigators with a variety of state-of-the-art microscopy techniques and technologies.

Because of high use and because the equipment is highly specialized, these insterments must be maintained in peak operating condition at all times.

The NanoString systems were installed in a BSL-1 area about two years ago. It is already receiving a lot of use and projects from DIR labs, and the project load has started to increase; if it were put out of action due to lack of maintenance or mechanical failure, the ability of the investigators in the DIR to conduct their research would be severely handicapped.
