About this file
This document is a Single Source Justification (SSJ) for the U.S. Department of State's Overseas Post in Bangkok, Thailand. The justification is for emergency lodging at the Athenee Hotel for displaced U.S. Department of State employees and their families following an earthquake in Myanmar. The total estimated contract value is $200,000, including options, and the procurement is being pursued on a sole source basis under the "urgency" clause of the Federal Acquisition Regulation. The Athenee Hotel was selected due to its proximity to the U.S. Embassy, existing professional relationship, ability to accommodate flexible check-in/check-out dates, safety, and willingness to accept pets on short notice. The contract will provide temporary housing for dozens of embassy personnel and their families who were displaced by the earthquake, with the goal of ensuring their immediate safety and quick access to the embassy during the emergency.

The Athenee Hotel is a part of an American hotel chain located very close to the U.S. Embassy that maintains a cordial and professional relationship with the Embassy for many years. They offer sufficient vacancies and flexibility regarding the uncertainty surrounding check-in and check-out dates. The hotel’s proximity also provides a location close to the embassy to facilitate quick access and commute times to the embassy for personnel that need to respond in an emergency. The hotel was also deemed a safe structure, which was important given what families had just experienced. This hotel also accepted pets at a moment’s notice.
