Polishing is then done by passing medium-grit, followed by fine-grit diamond tooling and resin polishing pads to achieve visually appealing, high-gloss finish. At the completion of the grinding process, the terrazzo floor should achieve a natural high gloss shine and lighten any existing stains.

Continue grinding with a very fine grit and repeat the process until the level of detail and shine is approved by COR. OR Crystallization Process: an alternative technique to restore terrazzo floor with acid solution, steel wool pads, and grinding/polishing equipment could be utilized, if approved by COR. Apply a small amount of the acid solution on the terrazzo floor, utilize a polishing machine with the steel wool pad to uniformly disperse the solution throughout the surface. The acid solution chemically changes the terrazzo stone surface during crystallization. The glossy look of the terrazzo floor after crystallization is due to the calcium fluorosilicate layer formed from the reaction between the acid solution and the terrazzo surface. The contractor and COR will determine the best method. Seal the terrazzo: After grinding or crystalizing the terrazzo floors a protection against oil-based stains, as well as moisture damage, should be applied. A proper sealant should be applied that will close off the pores within the terrazzo. This ensuring nothing can seep into the floor and discolor it.

Polish the terrazzo Once the proper sealant has been applied, the final step in terrazzo floor restoration is to polish the surface. This can be done in three ways; either by use of polishing powder, recrystallization, or diamond-polishing. Of the three polishing methods, diamond-polishing is the most effective. It will enable you to achieve a high gloss finish without making the floor surface slippery.
