DESCRIPTION/SPECIFICATIONS/WORK STATEMENT
1. BACKGROUND
The Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) Section at the U.S.
Embassy in Guatemala supports Guatemalan law enforcement institutions in strengthening operational capacity to counter transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), disrupt illicit drug trafficking routes toward the United States, and enhance regional security in alignment with U.S.
national security priorities of building a safer, stronger, and more prosperous hemisphere.
INL Guatemala’s continues to support the Guatemalan Defense Ministry in carrying out maritime interdiction operations that target illicit drug contraband, including support for maritime vessels and related equipment, including boat trailers, that are utilized in carrying out these critical missions.
Existing axels on Boat Master brand aluminum boat trailers utilized to transport and store Boston Whaler and Midnight Express patrol vessels, after many years of service and constant exposure to salt water conditions, have deteriorated and corroded to the degree they are no longer safe to operate and while the aluminum fabricated trailers are in serviceable conditions, the steel axels need to be replaced. By replacing the axels, the trailers will be restored to a safe and serviceable condition.
This targeted assistance directly supports INL’s interim strategic priorities to dismantle transnational criminal organizations, disrupt U.S.-bound illicit drug flows, and expand U.S.
operational advantage by strengthening Guatemalan maritime drug interdiction capabilities.
Renovated maritime equipment and accessories ensure the operability and sustainability of the INL-supported maritime interdiction program and enhances the overall effectiveness of counternarcotics operations that protect both Guatemalan communities and the United States.
