Questions and Answers page 2 of 7
(1) Pipe specifications?
Schedule 80 stainless steel piping.
(2) Oxygen levels 190 -foot down the 4 feet by 24-foot Penstock gate slot? Didn’t know.
Plan to proceed is to send down a quad gas and oxygen meter before sending any personnel down the slot.
Vendor shall test oxygen level before sending workers down the well. Before issuing Notice to Proceed, USIBWC will be verifying this among other measures in the vendor's safety plan.
(3) Work schedule? Was flexible, if we needed to work more hours to let them know.
This is to be coordinated with the COR during the execution phase.
(4) Is the piping threaded or welded? Went out to the site and found out it was all socket weld with exception where it ties in to equipment.
Vendor verified during site visit.
(5) Starting point to begin pipe replacement? It was pointed out indicating a set of unions on top by power source.
Confirmed
(6) Hydro testing pressure?
Test piping to ASME B31 Pressure Piping Code.
(7) Hydro Test media to be used? Hydraulic oil Confirmed.
(8) Customer will provide crane to lower and to bring up all equipment in and from gate opening area where we will fabricate before sending it further down the 190 -foot for the 4 feet by 24-foot Penstock gate slot.
Confirmed. USIBWC contribution is limited to lowering equipment and material down the slot at mobilization; and lifting them out at the end of the service. Everything else is the responsibility of the vendor; including ensuring that the material/ equipment can fit within the slot opening.
(9) Does Tripple S Oilfield & Construction LLC. Need to purchase pipe and fittings?
Yes. Vendor shall purchase all material and equipment including piping fittings and hydraulic fluid.
1. Can the socket welded pipe be replaced with hydraulic tubing?
You may propose hydraulic tubing in your offer. Please provide technical details to enable evaluation.
2. Do you want all clamps replaced with stainless steel clamps, and do you have a specific style of clamps you want us to use? The clamps that are currently installed are rusted and an old style.
We expect the new clamps to be similar to the old ones; however we will consider any other proposed style.
Clamps should be stainless steel to avoid Galvanic Corrosion.
3. Do you know the working pressure of the system?
The working pressure is 2500 psi as shown in the attached highlighted extract from the O&M Manual. As stated in response to another vendor, piping shall be schedule 80; and the piping shall be tested to ASME
B31 pressure piping code.
4. We will be doing all the work from ropes, and the “Scope of Work” says that your staff should be able to use all the equipment to access the pit. You would need to have a rope certified person to be able to go down on the ropes. There are other ways to access the pit, but it will add a cost to the bid. Please advise.
USIBWC may opt not to send anyone down the pit. Any employee (or other representative) accessing the pit shall be certified in using the equipment.
