II - Description/Specifications

Product Specifications

Draeger BG 4 Closed-Circuit Breathing Apparatus Components

Justification The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Mine Emergency Unit (MEU) of the Mine Emergency Operation (MEO) Division has 60 Draeger closed-circuit breathing apparatus distributed among four separate Mine Rescue Station locations around the country (Pittsburgh, PA, Beckley, WV, Madisonville, KY, and Price, UT). A majority of these apparatus were acquired in 2004 and have seen extensive use in both mine emergency situations and MEU training exercises over the past 22 years. Due to the unpredictability of mine fires, explosions, and gas inundations, it is imperative to keep all Drager apparatus available for immediate deployment at all times with necessary supplies at each station for use, proper maintenance, and the replacement of expired or defective components to best ensure the safety of MEU team members working in irrespirable atmospheres in the event of a mine emergency.

Specifications Components and consumables which are compatible with the Draeger BG closed-circuit breathing apparatus and approved for mine rescue use in irrespirable atmospheres.
