About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for a United States Attorney's Office (USAO) grand jury court reporting contract. The Q&A addresses multiple technical and procedural details about court reporting methods, with a key focus on IT security requirements and equipment approval processes. Key details include confirmation that both stenographic and digital court reporting methods are acceptable, provided they meet USAO security standards. Digital reporting solutions must utilize encrypted, standalone devices adhering to FIPS 140-2 standards, and all IT equipment requires inventory, labeling, and approval from the District Office Security Manager (DOSM). Digital reporting can be used as a backup solution if stenographic reporters are unavailable, and while USAO will not provide a demonstration of digital reporting capabilities, they confirm that other USAO offices have successfully used digital court reporting in the past.
