Specification Sheet: Low-Resolution NMR Spectrometer

Application

These specifications apply to a low-resolution nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometer for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of controlled and non-controlled substances. Requirements necessitate that the low-resolution NMR be a 100% cryogen-free, portable self-contained single unit capable of fitting on a standard laboratory benchtop.

Description

The low-resolution Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectrometer is a confirmatory technique for isomer differentiation, identification, and purity determination. For quantitative analysis, NMR is the only technique that can quantify at any purity level without requiring the compound of interest. One material of known purity can be used to quantify all components in solution from one spectrum.

Specifications

• Must be capable of examining all three nuclei: 1H, 19F, and 13C.

• Utilization of a non-cryogenic magnet is mandatory. NMRs that use cryogens are unacceptable.

• Operation at a frequency of 80 MHz required when examining 1H.

• Instrument must allow for variable acquisition times.

• Capable of a proton (dual channel) signal/noise (S/N) ratio of greater than 200:1 for a 1% ethylbenzene in chloroform-d standard sample in a single scan/pulse.

• Must have a 1H 50% Linewidth of 0.5 Hz or less.

• Must have a 1H 0.55% Linewidth of 20 Hz or less.

• Software must be able to provide an automatic frequency lock.

• Must be able to shim automatically with integrated field frequency lock to permit analysis with non-deuterated solvents.

• Must be able to shim unattended to maintain optimum magnetic field during idle time such that it is always well optimized in advance of the NMR being used.

• Software must have the capability of running multiple protocols or experiments on the same sample without end-user interaction.

• Must have the following pulse sequences for 1H built into the software (requiring the end user to program the pulse sequence is unacceptable): 1D, 2D COSY, 2D TOCSY, 2D JRES, T1 and T2 determinations.

• Must have the following pulse sequences for 13C built into the software (requiring the end user to program the pulse sequence is unacceptable): 1D, DEPT-45, DEPT-90, DEPT-135, HETCOR, APT, HMBC, HMQC, HSQC, HSQC-ME.

• Must have the following pulse sequences for 19F built into the software (requiring the end user to program the pulse sequence is unacceptable): 1D, 2D F-COSY, 2D F-JRES, 2D FH-COSY

• Stray magnetic field of 2 gauss or less required.

• Use of “traditional” NMR tubes; glass tubes with an outer diameter of 5 mm, is mandatory.

• Instrument footprint cannot exceed that of a traditional laboratory bench.

• Must utilize separate (not built-in) CPU/processor & screen/display for reliability & upgrades.

CONTINUATION PAGE

15DDHQ18Q00000207

• Does not require the use of compressed gasses.

• Does not require the sample to spin to meet other guidelines.

• Must have an automatic sample transfer to the spectrometer

• Sample capacity of the automatic sample tray must be ≥ 20.

• Must include a computerized processing station to include the minimum: A Windows based operating system with Windows 7 or higher, 2.4 GHz processor, min. 4 GB of RAM, a 15” inch screen, Standard English keyboard.

• Instrument installation and training provided that is covered in the cost of the total purchase price.

• Comes with a standard 1-year warranty for parts and labor.

• Must include a packing crate so that it may be safely shipped to other laboratories if needed.

• Insurance must be included in the shipping costs.
