Text version

1. Will the steam system (condensate piping being replaced) be shut down during the project duration or will the new piping installation be accomplished while the existing (fiberglass condensate piping) is in use/operation during installation of the new 3” steel condensate return piping (with 2’ “Foamglas” insulation with aluminum jacket)?

The steam system will be shut down to the affected building for the duration of the project.

2. Is the existing (being replaced) 3” fiberglass condensate piping to be removed/demolished and disposed of by the contractor?

The existing Fiberglass condensate piping will have to be removed and disposed of by the contractor.

3. The SOW (and drawing) indicates Aluminum jacket over 2” “Foamglas” insulation. Aluminum jacket is recommended by the insulation manufacturer where the insulation is exposed to the elements (sunlight/UV exposure, physical abuse, etc…) as is the case above ground however an aluminum jacket is not required (or recommended) by the manufacture on piping insulation below ground. Is aluminum jacket required on all “Foamglas” insulation, both above and below ground?

The Aluminum jacket is not required but adequate “Foamglas” insulation is required.

4. Note 5 on the drawing indicates approximately 100’ of 3” fiberglass piping was recently “replaced with 3” carbon steel sched-80.” Is this recently replaced 100’ of pipe to be replaced with new or is this 100’ of pipe to be reused? If reused, is it insulated or is it a requirement/option for the contractor to reuse and insulate?

The 100’ of 3” carbon steel sched-80 pipe that was recently replaced will not be replaced, and will be reused. This pipe is insulated. Proper connections and insulation to join the in place 3” carbon steel sched-80 pipe to the new pipe will be required.

5. Is fencing or signage (or ?) required along the perimeter of the excavation areas and if so will this be provided and performed by FCI Oxford or is this the responsibility of the contractor?

This will be performed by FCI Oxford.

6. Condensate piping replacement (excavation and backfilling) crosses the area identified as “PERIMETER FENCE” on the drawing. Are all temporary fencing and security measures required during work in this area the responsibility of the contractor or FCI Oxford? Will work in this area have additional or differing time constraints than work being performed inside/outside the “PERIMETER FENCE” All physical security measures will be supplied by FCI Oxford and the contractor will be escorted at all times within the secure perimeter. Hours within the secure perimeter will be 8:30am to 3:00pm and outside of the secure perimeter will be 7:00am to 4:00pm.

7. Paragraph 1.1.A. of the Summary of work states (in part) “The contractor shall ensure that the installation and insulation of the piping complies with all ASME standards.” However, “all ASME standards” is overly broad and could suggest differing requirements of inspection as well as various differing means/methods of installation. Please be more specific (i.e.; will x-ray inspection of welded pipe joints be required and if so will this be a partial sampling or a requirement of 100% of welded joints be x-ray inspected, is a certified welder required to perform all welding, is expansion compensation of the piping required and if so by what installation method or specific expansion device, etc…) Contractor will have to submit and follow there welding procedures. X-ray testing is not required but some kind of NDI Non Destructive Inspection will need to be completed.

8. Is the start of construction weather/season dependent (is work performance warm weather dependent to allow steam system shutdown)?

This project will start when the ground thaws in spring.

9. Will there be a site tour?

No, there will not be a site visit.

10. Could you please tell me if this is a new requirement, or if there is a current or previous contractor who has performed similar services? If available, can you please send along the incumbent contract or task order number?

This is a new requirement.
