01 00 00 - GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
SECTION 01 10 00 - SUMMARY
PART 1 - GENERAL
The purpose of this project is to abate the hazard from an abandoned coal mine feature located on the property of Mr. Ron Conradi and Mrs. Mary Conradi in Enumclaw, Washington (King County). The feature has been designated as:
KR-002. An approximately 7-foot long by 5-foot wide spherical depression that ranges in depth from about 1.5 to 2.5 feet. The surface expression of the feature is located on about a 13-degree slope (about 4 Horizontal to 1 Vertical [4H:1V]) within a wooded area of the property.
Maps showing the feature location are included on Plans C-1, C-2, and C-3. Work will consist of reclaiming the mine feature as summarized in Section 1.2 and as specified and shown on Plans C-4 and C-5.
1.1 Mine Feature Description and Location
Feature KR-002 Description. Feature KR-002 is a 5- by 7-foot oblong depression likely associated with historical mining operations of the Green River Mine. The feature is located approximately 29 feet up a 13-degree slope, east of the homeowner’s horse arena. Depths of the depression range from about 1.5 feet on the downslope end (west) to 2.5 feet on the upslope end (east). Observation of the depression showed soft/loose soil ranging in depth from 2.5 to 3 feet along the perimeter of the depression and increasing to approximately 4 feet at the center. Based on referenced mine maps, a rock access tunnel from the Green River Mine (assumed to be near-horizontal) runs directly beneath the feature.
Location/Property Owner and Access. Feature KR-002 is located at 27307 SE 384th Street, Enumclaw, Washington in the northeast quarter of Section 11, Township 20N, Range 06E, in an overgrown, sloped plane adjacent to a wooded area. The property is owned by Mr. Ron Conradi and Mrs. Mary Conradi. The general access route from Seattle to the feature is shown on Plans C-1, C-2, and C-3.
1.2 Mine Feature Reclamation Methods
Feature KR-002 The reclamation for Feature KR-002, as shown on Plan C-4, generally consists of the following tasks:
Excavate the feature to a depth of up to about 10 feet in an effort to reach the base of the anticipated rock tunnel (or caved material), as indicated on the plans.
Place ballast rock fill from the base of the excavation to approximately 2 feet below existing grade.
Place material to fully fill the exposed void from the bottom of the tunnel. Should the tunnel structure be observed to be open either upslope or downslope, then place and compact the ballast to run out at
19047-81 01 10 00-2 approximately a 2H:1V slope from the crown of the exposed tunnel opening and down the tunnel sections to the tunnel invert (see Plan C-4, detail 3).
Place 1 foot of concrete over the ballast, beginning 2 feet below the adjacent ground-surface grade, as identified in the plans. Slope the final concrete surface to drain downslope.
Place 1 to 2 feet of on-site backfill material over the concrete to bring the area up to meet the adjacent surrounding grade. Allow 16 hours for concrete to cure prior to placement of backfill.
Regrade and revegetate the surface of the feature excavation as well as any additional vegetated areas that were disturbed during construction.
1.3 Special Conditions
Work shall be accomplished in accordance with these specifications and the plans.
