About this file

This is a salient characteristics document detailing technical specifications for voltage amplifiers required by the Bureau of Reclamation. The agency requires 6 voltage amplifiers (2 per phase connected in series) for a rack-mounted 3-phase hardware-in-the-loop lab system, with AE TECHRON specified as the preferred brand.

The required amplifiers must meet specific technical requirements including: 0Hz DC - 120Hz minimum range output bandwidth, ±10V control signal input, 100% duty cycle ±150V minimum voltage peak to peak output at 16 ohms, 75V/μSec minimum slew rate, and 120V single phase input power at 60Hz. The units must be rack-mountable (1U to 4U 19" form factor), provide linear input-to-output voltage amplification, deliver 3-amp minimum peak output at 16-ohm load impedance, maintain 0.1% max DC total harmonic distortion from 0-120Hz, and include BNC control signal input connection. The system will be used to calibrate inputs of other devices and playback transient disturbance voltage and frequency data for study purposes.

140R8125Q0061 Salient Characteristics for a Voltage Amplifier

Preferred Brand: AE TECHRON

Characteristics:

0Hz DC - 120Hz min range output bandwidth.

Control signal input of ±10 volts.

100% duty cycle ±150V minimum voltage peak to peak output @ 16 ohms Capable of operating with 2 or more amplifiers in series to increase the peak-to-peak voltage output by the number of amplifiers connected.

75V/uSec minimum slew rate Device input power 120V single phase voltage at 60Hz linear input to output voltage amplification Between 1U to 4U 19” rack mount form factor 3-amp minimum peak output at 16-ohm load impedance 0.1% max DC total harmonic distortion from 0-120Hz BNC control signal input connection

Justification:

Voltage amplifiers are needed (6 total, 2 per phase connected in series) for rack mounted 3-phase hardware-in-the-loop lab system. Through software inject a small control voltage signal and need this signal linearly amplified.

The control signals are out of phase by 120 degrees, generating a balanced 3-phase waveform on the amplifier outputs. The hardware is used in a hardware-in-the-loop system to calibrate inputs of other devices. This system is also used to playback transient disturbance voltage and frequency data to study. This equipment is needed to generate accurate analog voltages at a low frequency range.
