• Following construction of the structures and prior to operation, maintain a maximum water level, as shown on the drawings for each structure, to prevent floatation. If the water level is not maintained at the specified elevation, follow the procedure in the approved submittal for ballasting the structures.

• Include all design analyses, including but not limited to seepage and stability analyses for diversion system and soil plugs based on developed hydraulic modeling and anticipated water surface elevations, armoring requirements for anticipated velocities, and groundwater elevation.

• Specifications Section 31 23 12 – Temporary Diversion System (cont’d)

• 1.03 Project Conditions:

• Hydrographs of the St. Mary river and groundwater readings are provided in Section 51 00 10 and

51 00 70 to aid in the timing of construction and preparation for groundwater conditions.

• Contractor is responsible for the design, analysis, construction, and maintenance of the diversion system.

• The Government will be responsible for measuring flow and operating the existing headworks to maintain required flows through the system.

• 1.04 System Requirements:

• Temporary diversion system is required to convey canal flows from the existing headworks, around the work areas, and back into the existing canal.

• Diversion flows must be met with a minimum upstream water surface elevation of 4471.8 and a downstream water surface elevation in the canal of 4469.4. The locations of these elevations are shown on Drawing 15-D-60052.

• Temporary diversion system includes soil plugs. Construct soil plugs to maintain impervious barrier between diversion flows and dry work areas, and to maintain diversion flows. Contractor may elect for an alternative design for a water retaining feature where soil plugs are indicated on drawings.
