About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document from an Emergency Generator Site Visit addressing contractor requirements and operational constraints for maintenance and load bank testing of six emergency generators located at Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) facilities in Nevada and Arizona.
The document identifies six generators requiring maintenance and testing: an HIMOINSA unit at the NV SRF Building, a 1250 KW ONAN at the NV Visitor Center, a KATO LITE at NV Lower Portal Road, a 35 KW ONAN portable unit in Arizona, and KOHLER units at both NV and AZ Gantry Crane locations. Key operational constraints include a 75-foot maximum estimated cable length requirement for load bank testing, a 20-ton vehicle weight limit and 9-foot width restriction for accessing Generators 3-6, and personnel escort requirements by BOR staff members. Access to the SRF Building generator may be impacted by construction removing temporary buildings, though an alternative road directly above the generator will remain available. Contractors are permitted to utilize existing load banks on-site rather than providing their own equipment. The document includes photographs of the Automatic Transfer Switch (ASCO) systems located above the portal gate, showing the ASCO Series 300 Automatic Transfer Switch units and internal wiring configurations that were not visible during the site visit.
