About this file
This document is a Questions and Responses file for Bureau of Reclamation Solicitation No. 140R3025Q0089, addressing specifications for steel casing. The solicitation requires 50 each of two pipe sizes: 6-inch diameter with .280" wall thickness (Schedule 40) and 10-inch diameter with .365" wall thickness (Schedule 40), both in 20-foot lengths of mild steel pipe. Key clarifications include confirming the requirement is for mild steel pipe meeting ASTM A53 Grade B ERW weld-seamed pipe standards, not stainless steel, and specifying that only domestic steel is acceptable.
The Q&A document resolves multiple vendor inquiries about pipe specifications, wall thickness, material type, and quantities. Multiple questions sought clarification on pipe material (confirming mild steel, not stainless steel), wall thickness options, and precise quantities. The solicitation is issued by the Department of the Interior Bureau of Reclamation for the Yuma Area Office, with all pipes required to be beveled on both ends. The total quantity is 50 pipes for each specified diameter, to be procured as mild steel pipe in 20-foot lengths.

Bureau of Reclamations Solicitation No. 140R3025Q0089 Amendment No. 00001
Questions and Responses Steel Casing for Yuma Area Office
1. The Description calls for stainless steel pipe, but the Specifications note “Mild Steel pipe…. ASTM A53 Grade B ERW weld-seamed pipe.” Please clarify Response: There is no requirement for stainless steel, we are requesting mild steel pipe. 50 each- 6-inch diameter, .280” wall thickness, (SCH 40) mild steel pipe, in 20-foot lengths. 50 each- 10-inch diameter, .365” wall thickness, (SCH 40) mild steel pipe, in 20-foot lengths. All pipes must be beveled (both ends).
2. Please clarify SCH 80 (.432) for 6” pipe and SCH 40 (.365) for 10” Pipe.
Response: Both are schedule 40. 50 each- 6-inch diameter, .280” wall thickness, (SCH 40) mild steel pipe, in 20-foot lengths. 50 each- 10-inch diameter, .365” wall thickness, (SCH 40) mild steel pipe, in 20-foot lengths. All pipes must be beveled (both ends).
3. 6" DIAMETER .375" WALL SS PIPE Does SS mean stainless steel? 1000 EA Is this footage needed?
Response: 50 each- 6-inch diameter, .280” wall thickness, (SCH 40) mild steel pipe, in 20-foot lengths. 50 each- 10-inch diameter, .365” wall thickness, (SCH 40) mild steel pipe, in 20-foot lengths. All pipes must be beveled (both ends).
4. 10" DIAMETER, .375" WALL SS PIPE Does SS mean stainless steel?
Response: There is no requirement for stainless steel, we are requesting mild steel pipe.
5. Is SS does mean Stainless Steel please describe which Grade Stainless is needed?
Response: There is no requirement for stainless steel, we are requesting mild steel pipe.
6. I have a question regarding the specifications for the steel casing project. The requirement specifies 20 ft lengths of mild steel with a .375" wall thickness. These specifications are available for the 10" casing as Schedule 40; however, for 6" casing, the wall thickness options are either .280" (Schedule 40) or .432" (Schedule 80).
7. Since pipe wall thickness varies with diameter, can you confirm if Schedule 40 (.280") for the 6" casing would be acceptable?
Response: 50 each- 6-inch diameter, .280” wall thickness, (SCH 40) mild steel pipe, in 20-foot lengths. 50 each- 10-inch diameter, .365” wall thickness, (SCH 40) mild steel pipe, in 20-foot lengths. All pipes must be beveled (both ends).
8. Please advise whether both domestic and imported steel casing are acceptable, or if the material must be domestic only.
Response: Domestic only
9. 1000 pcs 6” pipes with .375 wall Stainless Steel x 20 FT lengths 1000 pcs 10” pipes with .375 wall Stainless Stell x 20 FT lengths. Are the quantities correct?
Response: 50 each- 6-inch diameter, .280” wall thickness, (SCH 40) mild steel pipe, in 20-foot lengths. 50 each- 10-inch diameter, .365” wall thickness, (SCH 40) mild steel pipe, in 20-foot lengths. All pipes must be beveled (both ends).
10. 6” pipe available in .280 wall (Sch 40) or .432 wall (Sch 80). The solicitation requires .375 wall. Can we offer .432 wall?
Response: 50 each- 6-inch diameter, .280” wall thickness, (SCH 40) mild steel pipe, in 20-foot lengths. 50 each- 10-inch diameter, .365” wall thickness, (SCH 40) mild steel pipe, in 20-foot lengths. All pipes must be beveled (both ends).
11. Any luck on this one if it was carbon or stainless steel?
Response: 50 each- 6-inch diameter, .280” wall thickness, (SCH 40) mild steel pipe, in 20-foot lengths. 50 each- 10-inch diameter, .365” wall thickness, (SCH 40) mild steel pipe, in 20-foot lengths. All pipes must be beveled (both ends).
Mild steel pipe supplied shall meet the requirements of ASTM A53 grade B ERW weld-seamed pipe.
12. Does this need to be seamless stainless steel or welded stainless steel?
Which both are metallic….so just want to verify which is needed.
13. If stainless (be it seamless or welded) do you want 304/304L or 316/316L?
Response: There is no requirement for stainless steel, we are requesting mild steel pipe.
14. Are the quantities 1000’ of each size, or 2000’ of each size?
Response: 50 each- 6-inch diameter, .280” wall thickness, (SCH 40) mild steel pipe, in 20-foot lengths. 50 each- 10-inch diameter, .365” wall thickness, (SCH 40) mild steel pipe, in 20-foot lengths. All pipes must be beveled (both ends).
