About this file
This document appears to be a Question and Answer (Q&A) session related to Solicitation 140R2024Q0091 for the purchase, removal, and installation of a 17-ton hoist wire rope trolley crane for the Department of the Interior Bureau of Reclamation. The key details are:
The solicitation is for the purchase of a new 17-ton trolley crane to replace an existing crane at the Shasta Dam Hoist Tower. The current crane dimensions are 13'8" x 7'10", and it can be lowered through the existing 14'9" x 8'6" concrete opening. The rigging points in the overhead beams and the load rating of the floor hatch cover are not specified, and an engineering analysis may be required. Bidders will need to design and certify the rigging configuration used to remove and install the trolley crane. Similar rigging points were previously used for other equipment installations at the site.

Questions
1. What are the on site as built dimensions of the concrete opening the existing crane will need to lowered through.
Answer: 14’-9” x 8’-6” this matches prints submitted in solicitation as attachments.
2. What is the total outside dimension of the existing Trolley Crane?
Answer: 13’-8”+/- 1” x 7’-10” +2”/-0” . This matches prints submitted with solicitation. Its hard to get exact dimensions off prints but they seem to match up very closely.
3. Will the existing crane fit the existing concrete opening.
Answer: Yes per questions 1 and 2 when lifted and rotated 90 degrees the existing trolley crane will fit through existing concrete opening
4. What is the capacity of the 4 rigging points in concrete overhead beams?
Answer: Cannot find any print that shows rigging points or load limits. Still searching for more prints but currently do not know load limits. The assumption can be made they were installed for this exact purchase to install the original crane and were designed to handle load. If prints cannot be found, then and engineering analysis will need to be done.
5. How are this rigging points used in other locations?
Answer: Similar rigging points were used for installing new elevator hoist in Tour Tower. See pictures below of lifting beams fabricated to use rigging points in overhead beams. Sketch below shows the probably rigging configuration used to install Trolley Crane in past. Bidders will need to have engineer design and certify whatever rigging configuration used to remove and install Trolley Cranes.
6. What is load rating of the hatch cover on floor of Hoist Tower?
Answer: Cannot find any print that shows floor hatch cover or load limits. Still searching for more prints but currently do not know load limits. If prints cannot be found, then and engineering analysis will need to be done.
