RFI # 1
The survey shows the mastic as containing asbestos. Based on the job walk, the 2nd floor is included within the scope of work. It was stated that the 2nd floor is a wood substrate. Do you know if the wood floor has 2 layers i.e., plywood and underlayment? The mastic cannot be removed completely off wood surfaces. Thus unusually a top layer of plywood or backer board will be installed prior to the mastic. If there is not 2 layers, the existing wood floor would have to be removed. Please advise.
RFI # 1 Response:
Based on the building’s plans we understand the second floor’s subfloor to be comprised of one layer of 5/8 plywood. We have no knowledge of use of an underlayment.
RFI# 2
Based on this response. Do you want the 5/8” subfloor plywood removed (best method to remove the asbestos mastic entirely) or do you want the abatement contractor to remove as much asbestos mastic as possible via razor scrapping, knowing asbestos mastic will remain. It would be advisable to then install an over-laymnet (flooring contractor) to encapsulate what remains.
RFI# 2 Response:
Subfloor replacement is desired.
RFI# 3
is the surrounding floor included in the abatement or specifically what is shown in the pictures? Similarly, in the 'kitchen' area, there is carpet and tile. It looks like the carpet mainly contains the asbestos, but would the tile in that specific area need to be pulled and cleaned underneath as well?
RFI# 3 Response Only the area highlighted on the plans appended to the SOW is included in the project. The 2nd floor kitchen is not covered by this project.
