FISH SCREEN REPLACEMENT

FOREWORD

Work is located at the Roza Diversion Dam approximately ten miles north of Yakima, Washington. Work is for replacing the existing fish screens. Principal components of the work include temporary isolation of the work area with sheet piling and bulkheads, dewatering, concrete demolition, cast-in-place concrete, fish screens, electrical systems, and miscellaneous metalwork.

A. Work is located at Roza Dam on the Yakima River, approximately 10 miles north of Yakima, Washington in Kittitas County.

1.02 PRINCIPAL COMPONENTS OF WORK

A. Care of River during construction, including installation and removal of temporary cofferdam and dewatering systems on the upstream and downstream sides of the intake structure to facilitate other work listed below.

B. Removal of obstructions, including but not limited to: metal trash rack, trash rake guide track, metal handrail.

C. Concrete sawcutting.

D. Concrete removal.

E. Drilling holes for anchor bars and epoxy grouting bars in place.

F. Structural concrete.

CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCING

PART 1 GENERAL

1.01 MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT

A. Cost:

1. Include in prices offered in Price Schedule for other items of Work.

1.02 CONSTRUCTION PHASES

A. Construct the project in two phases over the course of two construction windows.

1. Phase 1 work will include all Work related to dewatering, demolishing, constructing, and commissioning of the replacement screens in Bay 1 and Bay 2.

2. Phase 2 work will include all Work related to dewatering, demolishing, constructing, and commissioning of the replacement screens in Bay 3, Bay 4, and Bay 5.

1.03 IN-WATER WORK SCHEDULE RESTRICTIONS

A. Perform in-water work during the following time periods:

1. 2024 In-Water Construction Window: October 1, 2024 through March 14, 2025.

2. 2025 In-Water Construction Window: October 1, 2025 through March 14, 2026.

B. The raising and lowering of installed fish screen assemblies is not considered in-water work.

1.04 RESERVOIR DRAWDOWNS DURING CONSTRUCTION

A. When required, request reservoir drawdowns. Comply with Section 01 14 20 – Facility Operations and Conditions.

1.05 INTERIM MILESTONES

A. Comply with specified interim milestones for construction activities.

B. Phase 1:

1. Isolate Bays 1 and 2 from the Yakima River, no later than November 10, 2024.

2. For each fish screen assembly, complete the Track Field Test as specified in

Section 35 21 42 – Fish Screen Assembly, no later than February 8, 2025

3. Remove temporary bulkheads and cut down sheet piles no later than March 11, 2025.
