4. Contractor Capability: Provide all supervision, labor, materials, and equipment necessary to repair the Marine Life Tidepool exhibit within the Park Visitor Center.

Basic Description of Work:

The Marine Life Tidepool exhibit within the Channel Islands NP Visitor Center is a critical display used to interpret the Park’s marine resources. In 2008, the exhibit was rebuilt to increase opportunities for visitors with sight, hearing, or mobility impairments, and to repair a major leak.

In 2018, cracks began to show in the existing concrete tank walls and moisture intrusion attacking the rebar and waterproof membrane became evident. The contractor shall repair the exhibit and correct these issues.

The work will include closing off the tank from the rest of the Visitor Center to contain dust and debris and to ensure that the Visitor Center can remain open during construction. The Contractor shall drain the tank, inspect tank for cracks, moisture intrusion, and damage. Viewing windows, skimmer box, and plumbing will be removed;

Cracked and damaged tank wall, rockwork, and rebar will be removed along with any remaining compromised concrete. Waste will be properly disposed of at an offsite dump location. The Contractor will then install new rebar, concrete, waterproofing membrane, rock work, and habitat. Color and texture should match the existing concrete, rock work, and habitat. Any other small cracks discovered during the project will be filled by the Contractor with epoxy injection. Window, skimmer box, and plumbing will be replaced, and tank refilled. The Contractor will inspect the repaired tank and will repair any leaks found.
