SECTION 1 - PLOW UNIT

1. CAPACITY: The unit shall be so designed that when working at or near full capacity widening a cut, it shall remove the snow completely from the roadway over its designed width without spilling snow around either side of the box. The cutting swath shall be not less than four inches wider than the overall maximum width of axles, chassis, and cab.

The unit shall be capable of the following performances and capacities:

Remove from the roadway not less than 3000 tons of snow per hour under the following conditions:

--Elevation: 11,000 feet above sea level, approximately.

--Weight of snow: Approximately 25 lbs, per cubic foot.

--Condition of Snow: Undisturbed.

--Casting distance: Not less than 80 feet full throttle operation.

--Snow cutting depth: Not less than 48 inches.

2. GENERAL ASSEMBLY: The snow plow unit shall consist of a two-stage rotary plow. The first stage must be composed of helically curved blades capable of cutting, gathering, and feeding the snow through a directional chute. Impeller to be mounted in approximate center of unit behind cutter blades.

2.1 The first stage shall have not more than one right and one left hand ribbon-type helical blade assemblies of equal length. The diameter of the first stage helical blades shall be not less than 36 inches. The helical cutter casing shall be contoured to the helical cutters.

2.2 First Stage Reel CENTER DRIVE TYPE

Shall be driven by a hypoid center drive gear box with torque capacity of 200% of the hydrostatic motor that drives the head. Input shaft and hub to be splined and no less than 2 3/8" dia. Output shaft and hub to be splined and no less than 3 1/2" dia.

2.3 Flights on reel to be shaped from AR450 steel or equivalent strength and wear resistance, cold formed with 100,000 psi yield strength. Heating of flights to facilitate forming is not acceptable. Each flight is to be supported by not less than two supports per flight. Reel assembly shall be equipped with bolt-on outer protective rings each end, and made of same type material and thickness as helical blades. Diameter of the first stage helical ribbons shall be not less than 44 inches.

2.4 Second stage (or fan) shall be driven by a gear box or hydraulic motor. Diameter of second stage (or blower fan) shall be not less than 44 inches, 16” deep and constructed of AR450 Plate steel. Paddles shall be 3/8” minimum.

2.5 The plow must be so designed and constructed that the snow is fed into discharging impeller by mechanical means and not be dependent upon the forward motion of the plow to force snow into the discharging mechanism. Blower must be a minimum of 120” wide.

2.6 The lower cutting edge of the rotary head shall be equipped with a replaceable scraper blade of high carbon steel. Rear, inner shoes shall be adjustable height shoe carriers fitted with bolt-on alloy steel, mushroom-type wear shoes to control contact with the road surface. Height of shoes shall be adjustable without removal of shims or bolts.

2.7 Optional: Two cutter bars: one attached to each side of the rotary plow box, extending up and forward to a total height of not less than 8 feet from the roadway. Cutter bars shall be securely attached and braced to withstand side and forward thrust.

3. DISCHARGE CHUTE: The discharge opening shall be designed to direct snow to the right of left side and to any desired angle of discharge through an intermediate vertical arc of approximately 140 degrees. Primary discharge chute shall extended a minimum of 32 inches from volute rotating discharge assembly to enhance casting and visibility during plowing operations.

4. CONTROLS: All rotary plow controls shall be located in the cab and all controls shall be readily accessible to the operator. All controls and switches shall be legibly labeled and illuminated.

5. HYDRAULICS: Rotary Plow hydraulics shall be independent of Loader hydraulics, including Pump and Valves. Relief Valve settings for helical cutting blades and discharge fan (impeller) shall be 5,000 PSI.

6. SHEAR PINS: Shear pin assembly is required on first stage helical cutters. Shear pin shall shear under full horsepower only due to the entry of heavy foreign objects into the plow.

7. ENGINE: The engine supplied shall be a turbocharged diesel, minimum 400 horsepower, and TIER IV emissions mandatory. Engine shall be equipped with a complete electronic control package.

The engine shall be equipped with all standard commercial accessories, except that in lieu of standard accessories the following items shall be supplied.

b. Ether Quick-Start system with electric remote control inside cab.

c. Engine tachometer with the indicator mounted in cab where it may by readily observed by the operator.

d. Full-flow replaceable element oil filter.

e. Air Cleaner - The air cleaner shall be a two-stage unit incorporating a centrifugal pre-cleaner stage which removes coarse dust, and a dry-type replaceable paper final stage.

Shall be of the correct capacity as recommended by the engine or the air cleaner manufacturer. There shall be a well-functioning, self-cleaning dust and water evacuator and an air cleaner service indicator. The air cleaner service indicator shall be installed for the purpose of showing a continuous warning when the dry paper element needs servicing.

f. Shall be equipped with 180 degree thermostat.

g. Primary and secondary fuel filters.

h. Engine mounted variable speed governor.

i. Radiator and cooling system shall be adequate to provide cooling while working to maximum capacity of 80-degrees Fahrenheit.

j. Shall be equipped with bells and red warning lights in an integral unit, to warn the operator of low oil pressure, high coolant temperature, or low coolant level.

k. Engine shall also be equipped with block heater, 115 or 230 volt, 2200 watt minimum.

8. ENGINE HOUSING: The housing for the engine shall be fabricated from sheet metal not less than 14 gauge. The side panels shall be capable of being fully opened to permit unobstructed access to the engine.

9. BLOWER HEAD DRIVE

Power shall be transmitted from the diesel engine to the plow through a hydrostatic pump and motor, with a minimum rating of 400 input H.P. at 5,000 PSI, Hydraulic hoses shall be 6,000 PSI working pressure with a minimum 3:1 safety factor.

Hydrostatic system shall have sufficient cooling to prevent storage tank oil temperature from exceeding 210 degrees oil temperature. Oil temperature and glycerin type pressure gauge to be cab mounted.

Oil reservoir shall have capacity of not less than 30 gallons and fuel capacity to provide not less than 8 hours of continuous operation. Engine and tank assemblies shall be so designed as to permit dismounting from the loader in one unit.
