About this file
This document contains questions and answers related to a water system replacement project for the Department of the Interior National Park Service Midwest Region. The project involves renovating a well pumphouse and replacing the existing water system to meet IDEM and NPS regulations. The contractor will be responsible for providing a temporary potable water source on site that meets applicable standards for human consumption. This should include inspection and testing to ensure the water does not become contaminated. The contractor must also replace the existing single tank water softener with a system sufficient for 24/7 operation and capable of handling the maximum 30 gpm flow rate. All work must be coordinated with the COR and meet specified pressure requirements and timelines for interruptions to the permanent water system.

Questions and Answers listed below:
QUESTIONS:
Question # Question Answer/Response 1.
I have some questions regarding the temporary water that is going to be needed on site during the well pumphouse renovation. It is in my opinion that a temp water plan be drafted by the design team to ensure that the following questions are addressed.
Will it need to be potable? Filtered? Any special requirements? If the public has access to it will need to be potable as there is a chance for human consumption.
The water needs to be potable and meet NPS and IDEM standards for human consumption.
2. Are specific pressures required to operate the fixtures inside the building?
Min and Max pressures are 40 psi and 60 psi respectively for well operation. See Specifications Section 1.2 B.
3.
Is it to be trucked in daily or can a tank be set up onsite?
How much water is consumed here daily?
A tank or a truck can be set up for this purpose.
Approximately 623 GPD.
4.
Where is this temporary water source to be stored onsite during use? Is it to have its own power source as well?
The contractor can reconfigure the power and well as necessary as far as it meets NPS and IDEM standards and permits. See questions No. 1.
5.
Who is responsible for the inspection and supervision of this temporary water throughout the project to ensure it does not get contaminated and people do not get sick?
The contractor will be responsible for the inspection and operation.
The contractor is responsible for any sample necessary to meet IDEM and NPS standards. NPS will supervise the whole process.
6. Does it need to be available all day and every day? If so, what is the estimated length of the project schedule?
The park expected interruptions during the reconnection between the temporary and permanent system no longer than 24 hours.
7.
Is it possible for contractor to go by the site and access the pump house where the water system is located?
The area around the pump house is open the public, but to access the pumphouse the contractor need to coordinate with the COR Agustin Perez: Cel - 219-728-7854
8.
Do you happen to know the size of the water line you currently have between the pump house and the well?
The contractor will need to confirm the pipe size between the well and the pump house that appear to be 1.5”.
9.
what size motor the horse power and the gpm on the pump?
what size line is going into the water meter?
the tank size?
Franklin 1 ½ HP motor 30 gpm. See specifications Page 3.
See Appendix A Drawings: Water Meter line size is 1.5” as shown on sheet C04.
10.
Will it need to be potable and if so protected with a backflow device? Filtered? Any special requirements?
Is it to be trucked in daily or can a tank be set up onsite?
What pressures are needed to operate fixtures inside?
Does it need to be available all day and every day?
See answers 2 through 6 in this document.
11. Did the project include only Heating no AC? Yes, the actual building has only heating.
12. If a bond required? Yes – Please refer to the solicitation for details on the SF1442 and the clause package
13.
Suppliers are requesting a specification for the water softener and that the only information available is that it is to be a single tank, a single tank may not be sufficient and a twin tank unit may be needed for 24/7 operation.
They are also asking for flow rates.
See Specifications page 3 & 4. ( Control Culligan Hi-Flo 3 Water Softener (Tank SN: C 122366), or Approved Equal.) The existing Softener been working fine and meeting IDEM and NPS regulation.
The contractor is responsible to meet IDEM and NPS regulations and need to provide a system that meet those standards.
