About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document addressing contractor inquiries about carpet replacement at a visitor center. The document clarifies that the contractor is responsible for theater seating removal and reinstallation (seats must be reinstalled within 1-2 inches of existing holes), and alternative carpet manufacturers to Tarkett Aftermath II are acceptable, with final carpet/color selection to be made from the contractor's full catalog.
The document specifies storage requirements (exterior storage per SOW site map, interior hallway storage with 36" clear pathway), material approval timeline (5 business days after COR submission), and scope details including: carpet replacement for 1st and 2nd floors plus two stairwells, no subfloor replacement, contractor responsibility for moving theater projector IT equipment, and quarter round trim handling. The Park will remove books and laptops but not shelving or other IT equipment. This Q&A provides implementation-level details that complement the primary solicitation requirements for this carpet replacement project.

1. Theater Seating Handling – Are the theater seats bolted down, and if so, who is responsible for removing and reinstalling them? If this falls under our scope, are there any specific reinstallation requirements? Theater seating is the responsibility of the contractor, they are lag screwed into the flooring and will need to be reinstalled close (within an inch or two) of existing holes and maintain neat and tidy rows.
2. Carpet Selection & Alternative Manufacturers – Has a final carpet color/design been selected for the Tarkett Aftermath II carpet tiles? Additionally, the specifications allow for alternative manufacturers (Interface, Mohawk, J&J Industries, etc.). Can you confirm if these alternatives are acceptable, and if so, what is the approval process for substitutions? Other manufactures equivalent spec carpeting is allowed. Final carpet/color will be selected from manufactures full catalog that the contractor is using.
3. Staging & Storage Areas – Where should we temporarily store furniture, bookshelves, and theater seating during carpet removal and installation? Are there any space limitations or off-limits areas we should be aware of? Staging and storage areas are outlined in the SOW on the site map for exterior storage. For interior storage of office furniture, etc. the hallway outside of the room being worked on can be used but must maintain 36" of clear pathway per fire code.
4. Material Approval & Procurement Timeline – What is the expected timeline for material approvals, and are there any anticipated delays due to government procurement processes?
Understanding this will help us ensure timely ordering and project scheduling. 5 business days after submission to the COR.
5. Is subfloor being replace? No.
6. Are all carpeted surfaces being replaced? Yes, for 1st, 2nd floors and 2 stairwells.
7. Do we need to move the theater projector IT equipment? Yes.
8. What will the Park move/remove? Books from shelves but not the shelving and laptops (no other IT equipment will be removed).
9. What if the carpet does not fit under the quarter round trim? It will need to be removed and put back into place after installation (additional information in SOW).
