Contractor’s Questions – NPS Response

1. There is nitrogen compressor ECS AG-675/950 specified, but there is the option of ECS AG-675 or ECS AG-950. We would like to request the fire suppression system as-builds in order to propose the correct size of nitrogen compressor.

NPS Response: The Original As built is attached in three parts above. Please note it is a three-story building. They are labeled as "Ground Floor," "First Floor," and "Second Floor" as they were labeled in the 1840s. This building had all new piping installed (replaced in kind) from the top valve throughout the building approximately late 2014/early 2015. To the best of my knowledge there were no changes to piping sizes, however the contractor should verify before biding. I am open to contractors scheduling a visit to measure pipes if they so choose.

2. Does the Fort want any other part of the dry system replaced (IE: pressure gauges, pressure switches, dry valve, control valves, piping)

NPS Response: No

3. It does not state it in the specs, but I’d rather confirm that all they want to replace is the existing air compressor with a nitrogen generator system (includes: wall mount controller w/ air compressor, nitrogen purge valve, handheld gas analyzer)

NPS Response: Section 01 10 00 Division 1 Short Form General Requirements Item 1 Description of Work Subsection 1.2 Paragraph B. "Work consists of: Removal of the existing air compressor, installation of a wall mounted ECS AG-675/950 or equal nitrogen compressor. Specification for AG-675/950 attached (any substitute must meet or exceed these standards) and install of new associated plumbing and electrical components."

4. After the initial install / testing, it is noted to re-test the system at (14) days from install to verify the compressor is working.

NPS Response: There will be three tests. One on the initial installation, one no sooner than 14 days after installation, and one 30 days after install to verify functionality.

5. A third test is requested, no sooner than 14 days following the after installation re-test (it mentions testing after 30 days, which I am assuming this third test would be considered that?)

NPS Response: There will be three tests. One on the initial installation, one no sooner than 14 days after installation, and one 30 days after install to verify functionality.

6. Would you like this included in my scope of work to perform two return trips after install to re-test the system around 14 days / 30 day marks?

NPS Response: Yes, the follow-up testing is required.

7. Are you okay with keeping the existing air compressor and having it tied into the nitrogen generator? It would be useful to keep it as a backup / quick-fill purposes.

NPS Response: Due to space limitations the old compressor will need to be permanently removed.

8. Are shop drawings required showing the new nitrogen generator?

NPS Response: Yes

9. Is an O&M Manual required?

NPS Response: Yes

10. What is the square footage of the building living spaces.

NPS Response: The building is 58' 3" long by 37' 10" wide. The ground floor is 7' 11 1/2" tall. The first floor is 11' 9 1/2" tall. The second floor is 8' 11" tall. I could not read the attic space number due to the age of the print, but it appears to be 6' tall.
