QUESTIONS AND RESPONSES

EVERGLADES NATIONAL PARK – CONSERVE AND DIGITIZE

ARCHIVAL COLLECTION – 140P5424Q0053

Note: The following questions were received before the deadline for questions which was 08/22/2024 at 12:00PM EST as per the solicitation.

1. Based upon the information provided in the Statement of Work and our past experience with similar scrapbooks, our book conservators would not recommend rebinding this object due to the fragility of the covers and leaves. Can a proposal be submitted that meets the other solicitation requirements for conservation and housing of the object without this step?

Yes, the detailed proposal for treatment would be good to review.

2. In Section III.C.d of the Statement of Work, there is a requirement that “lint-free cotton or undyed (white) nylon gloves must be worn whenever handling the Collection”. Our handling policy is that photographs are handled by conservators and technicians using disposable nitrile gloves while other materials are handled with meticulously clean bare hands in order to improve tactile dexterity. Is this acceptable?

Yes, this is an acceptable alternative and in line with professional standards.

3. Also, if there are any additional photos of the objects that can be shared, we would love to have access to them.

Will send photos already taken, please advise if other details about the item are needed.
