Spite Highway/Loop Trail Tree Trimming/Trail Clearing, Elliott Key Q & A

1) How high should the branches be cut over the trail?

Answer: Cut overhead branches on trail 10-12 feet, while still maintaining a canopy look.

2) Should the leaning trees outside of the 6 foot zone but leaning over the trail be cut?

Answer: Cut the branches of trees leaning over the trail in a height of 10-12 feet.

3) Should the grass growing on the south end of Spite Highway be mowed or are the roots to be removed from the trail?

Answer: No. There is no mowing necessary. Refer to page 3 of Statement of Work.

4) Does the Poisonwood need to be removed completely from the Island?

Answer: Poisonwood is to be removed from the trail, but not chipped. Place cut or dead Poisonwood 10-20 feet off of trail.

5) Are we to price the job per mile or by the job?

Answer: Provide a firm fixed price - lump sum for the job for a total of 7 miles plus loops in trail.

6) Do you want the dead trees next to the trail to be removed or not?

Answer: Yes, the dead trees next to the trail should be removed to prevent further blockage of trail in the future.

7) Can the requirement for a certified arborist be waived?

Answer: To be determined responsible for this work Contractor must operate under a hazardous tree service license, have a certified arborist on staff OR have proven experience by providing past performance information on previous government contracts of similar scope. Contractor should employ competent crews familiar with standard safety practices in accordance with accepted industry standards and familiar with the technical aspects and hazards of tree maintenance work and equipment used in such operations.

8) Could you please provide photos of the jobsite?

Answer: The GPS location is Elliott Key Island, Florida - N25.27.153 by W80 11.762.

7) Are all of the trees Poisonwood or are there different species? How many of the trees are Poisonwood?

Answer: There are several different species throughout the trail including Buttonwood, Ficus, Gumbo Limb, Mangrove and Poisonwood. The percentage of Poisonwood is about 25% (around 20-30 trees).

8) What are the sizes of the trees? Diameter at breast height?

Answer: See page 3 of the Scope of Work. The trees run from 6 inches to 8 inches in diameter.
