About this file

This document contains answers to vendor questions regarding solicitation number 140P5323R0053 for the repair of two water tanks located at Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The work includes stripping and re-coating the interior and exterior of the tanks. A fire hydrant on site can be used as a water source for pressure washing. No power is supplied to the tanks. While the intent is to return the tanks to service within 10 days, the park will work with the contractor to ensure sufficient time for surface preparation, repairs, and coating cures to applicable standards. Tnemec Series 21 interior coating will be acceptable provided it meets NSF and AWWA requirements, subject to approval of specifications submitted.

Vendor question: 140P5323R0053 2 water tanks rehab

1. considering using a UHP high pressure washing system to strip the tanks and I wanted to know if there is a water supply on-site that we could use? If not traditional blasting will have to be used

1. There is a fire hydrant on the property that can be used as a water source.

2. is there power supply for both tanks as well?

2. There is no power supply to the tanks.

3. There is a note that states: "Return tanks back into service within 10 days from date drained." Will there be any change to that? The cure time for the interior coating is a minimum of seven (7) days. That would only leave three (3) days for the interior to be blasted/coated, the exterior to be pressure washed/coated, and for all the repairs to be completed.

3. The intent is to get the water tanks back into service as soon as practical; however, we do not want to jeopardize the quality of the prep work, repairs, or cure time for the coating. The Park will work with the Contractor to ensure there is sufficient time to perform the necessary work to the applicable standards and requirements.

4. Since the specifications list the surface preparation of the exterior list that the tanks need to be pressure washed, will there be water available for the contractor to use?

4. There is a fire hydrant on the property that can be used as a water source.

5. The specifications lists Tnemec Series 20 as the interior coating, however that coating is no longer NSF approved. I did speak my local Tnemec representative (Mark Goulet) and he did inform me that he is going to be present at the bid opening to discuss the new NSF regulations concerning the specified coating. The majority of the time, we now see specifications to list Tnemec Series 21 instead of Series 20.

5. The use of Tnemec 21 will be acceptable as long as it meets NSF regulations and AWWA standards for water tanks. This information will need to be submitted for review and approval.
