About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document for solicitation 140P5126Q0035, which addresses clarifications regarding the scope of work for creating two Historic Furnishings Reports for Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park. The King Family Home collection contains approximately 1,500 objects including furniture, art, and household items, with the park actively deaccessioning items outside the 1990s period of significance. The SCLC offices collection is smaller and includes a historic newspaper printer, donation collection cans, posters, and archival newspaper and magazine materials. Floor plans for both buildings have been provided as attachments, and informal interviews with key park staff are expected to inform the reports rather than formal recorded oral histories, though the park has completed oral histories for both sites that will be made available to the awardee.
The park's archival and Records Management Collection materials have been digitized but are not currently hosted online; however, the park will distribute finding aids and send information digitally as needed. The 2021 Historic Structure Report for the King Family Home is identified as reliable, and a completed historic finish analysis has been provided. A draft Historic Structure Report for the SCLC offices is available but contains errors and lacks final approval. This document serves as a reference resource for prospective offerors to understand the available documentation, collection scope, and interview expectations prior to submitting quotes for this small business set-aside contract.

Solicitation 140P5126Q0035, Questions and Answers
1. Can you provide more information about the number of objects within the collection for KFH?
· There are roughly 1500 objects (including furniture, art, household items) within the collection. The park is actively working to deaccession items that are not within the period of significance (1990s era appliances, furniture, etc) so hopefully there will be slightly few objects soon.
2. While there are very few objects, can you provide any information on the ones available for the SCLC offices?
· The NPS has the historic newspaper printer, some donation collection cans, posters, magazine, and newspaper archival items.
3. Will the park provide the floor plan as noted in the SOW?
· Floor plans for both buildings are attached to this response.
4. Interviews with key park staff are mentioned in travel to Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park. How many interviews will happen and will they be formally recorded oral histories or informal interviews to inform the HFR?
· Informal interviews to share information are expected. We do not expect recorded oral histories as part of this project.
5. Does NPS anticipate any additional oral histories to be done in conjunction with the project?
· No. The park has completed oral histories for both sites and can make those videos and transcripts available to the awardee.
6. Will the park archives and collections from the Records Management Collection be accessible remotely or is this only on site?
· The park has digitized the RM Collection, but it is not currently hosted online. The park will distribute finding aids for both archival and RM material and be able to send information digitally as needed.
7. Can the team rely upon the Historic Structure Report from 2021 for the King Family Home? Is there an HSR for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference offices (did not see it posted here: https://npshistory.com/publications/malu/index.htm)?
· The 2021 HSR is a reliable treatment guide. The park also has a completed historic finish analysis, attached to this email. The draft SCLC HSR is also attached. There is no final copy, and this document contains errors.
