About this file

This document contains questions and answers regarding a collection condition survey for objects held at the OCMU storage facility. Approximately 500 objects stored in cabinets and pallets will be included in the survey. While the overall collection contains 3 million objects, the vast majority are housed in boxes and not subject to the condition assessment. Recommendations can be made by grouping similar object types, such as the 20% of materials that are ceramic vessels. All cabinets and pallets are located in a single storage room in the facility basement. The related federal contract opportunity is solicitation number 140P5123Q0047 from the Department of the Interior National Park Service Southeast Region for an OCMU collection condition survey.

Questions and Answers , 7/19/2023

1. If there are approximately 3 million objects in the collection and 1/2 of the collection is at SEAC, we assume there are 1.5 million objects subject to the OCMU CCS. Are there 1.5 million objects subject to the OCMU CCS?

Answer: The CCS is only for objects stored in cabinets and pallets. The vast majority of the collection is in boxes not cabinets, so aren't subject to the CCS. There are about 500 objects in the cabinets and misc pallets in the storage room. Most of this material can be grouped by type for recommendations. For example, about 20% of the material in the cabinets are ceramic vessels/vessel fragments, so recommendations can generally be the same for all of these objects.

2. Are there archives and library items that are a part of the object number count but are not included in the CCS?

Answer: No archives or library items are included in the survey.

3. Are the objects in VC located in one storeroom? How many storerooms are collections held in?

Answer: All storage cabinets and pallets are in one storage room in the basement of the VC.
