SECTION 3.0 SCOPE OF WORK
3.1 Using the results and recommendations from the provided most recent 03/29/2018 lead inspection and risk assessment of the structure, as well as the lead inspection report from 10/23/2014 the work out lined would address any findings that are hindering the building from being long term occupied by children under the age of 6 and pregnant women. This work is to address all deficiencies and recommendations that encompass both reports. COR to be available for any and all critical path carpentry repairs to be taken on by NPS. Accomplishing the needed State Lead Abatement will include the following items:
3.2 Painting and Coatings: NPS will provide paint and stain color IDs and samples on file for use in matching colors. For areas where color IDs are not on file, the COR will allow sample chips to be extracted from the surfaces. All color samples will be approved by the COR in coordination with the Contracting Officer for there likeness throughout the project. After lead remediation has taken place and surfaces are prepared for coatings, the following processes are recommended for acceptance:
3.2.1 Stains and Wood Coatings: Oil free clean rag with mineral spirits on all bare wood to be stained or clear coated, allow to dry. Oil-based stains only with clean rag, application depending on matching finishes, allow to dry. Oil-based clear polyurethane, 2 coats, allow drying between coats. Presses to be carried out with hand brushing.
3.2.2 Primer and Painting: Substrates to be clean of dust and depress, free of scraping and sanding marks. All work to be fair to surrounding work and free of edges that are prone to chipping after coating. Oil-based stain blocking primer applied with brush up to two coats.
Water based paints applied with brush minimum two coats. Care to be taken when cutting in to all existing work.
3.2.3 Exterior Cleaning: Low pressure washing with degreasing agents and mold inhibitors are expectable. Thorough washing of water after cleaning is to be expected as not to leave agents on surfaces.
3.2.4 Calcimine Ceiling Cleaning and Coating:
Scrubbing and Washing: Using hot water and phosphate-free detergents as required and scrubbing pads, scrub and wash surfaces to soften the glue size and encourage the calcimine to lift. Generate foamy froth to suspend the water and keep the surface wet longer. Employ squeegee tool or large sponge to remove foam and water. Repeat the scrubbing, squeegee process several times, using clean water and fresh detergent each time; allow up to four consecutive wash/scrub cycles to sufficiently remove old coatings and any other contaminants.
Rinsing: When all the calcimine appears to be removed, rinse all surfaces using clean water. Provide one final clean-water rinse, then let surface dry completely Evaluation: Test success of calcimine removal by firmly rubbing dark cloth and/or finger across the surface. If chalk appears, repeat scrubbing, washing and rinsing process until at least 80% of each subject surface is calcimine free and acceptable for oil-based primer or calcimine coater.
Basis of Design - Benjamin Moore Super Spec Alkyd Calcimine Recoater 306.
3.2 Doors: 25 wooden colonial raised panel door. Both side and all four edges to be worked to achieve and comply with the most current Massachusetts lead abatement standards.
