1. Question: Will a lay down are be provided in close proximity to the project?
Answer: The only lay down area is within the current construction site limits.
2. Question: Will the area around the parking lot be able to be closed during demolition to allow for loading dumpsters or trucks?
Answer: The South Sickles Avenue and area around the parking lot can be closed on a daily basis when there is a request and approval with the Contracting Officer.
3. Question: Will the NPS be removing signs and cannons as needed to support the work?
Answer: The NPS will be removing the Cannon Carriages and Tubes. Relocation of Interpretive signs will be part of the Contractor’s work.
4. Question: Will benchmark be provided and verified before start of work?
Answer: The National Park Service will provide a survey location if required. Layout and survey control are the responsibility of the Contractor.
5. Question: Will the NPS provide the seed mix for the refurbishing of the old trails and walkways off path?
Answer: As stated in Specification Section 32 92 19-2 FINISH GRADING AND SEEDING, Part 2.3A1a use American Eagle seed mix from American Seed Company, Inc. Porters Sideling, PA or equal as approved by the Park.
6. Question: Will the road be able to be closed for pump trucks and setting of new steps?
Answer: Yes, the South Sickles Avenue and area around the parking lot can be closed on a daily basis when there is a request and approval with the Contracting Officer.
7. Question: Will a Quarry recommendation be provided by NPS for the steps?
Answer: See specification Section 04 41 00-1 DRY-PLACED STONE, Part 2.1B. Granite Industries of Vermont (www.granitevermont.com). Other local and regional stone companies may resell their granite stone. The color is ‘Black Mist’ or ‘American Black (Pennsylvania)’.
8. Question: Is there a water source nearby for use to support work?
Answer: No surface water source in the park for the contractor. There are a few fire hydrants that could be sources for water. Gettysburg Municipal Authority would be the point of contact to hook up to these hydrants and to pay all costs associated.
9. Question: Will a laydown area be allowed near the work area for tools and equipment?
Answer: Yes, if it is within the construction area.
10. Question: Will the site supervisor be allowed to be the site super and safety person on this project?
Answer: If the Site Superintendent is also qualified as a responsible safety person then yes.
11. Question: Has a designated staging area been decided as of yet?
Answer: No designated staging area has been identified outside the construction area.
12. Question: It was mentioned at the site visit that a local supplier may have the Granite Creek Stone, will you name that supplier?
Answer: Any granite supplier can order from Granite Industries of Vermont (www.granitevermont.com). Local granite suppliers are as follows: BAUGHMAN MEMORIALS, INC.25 S. MAIN STREET, DOVER PA 17315, REDDING & SON 300 WEST HANOVER STREET, HANOVER, PA 17331.
13. Question: It was mentioned at the site visit there is a local supplier that may have the Aggregate Concrete mix design that was shown as a sample, will you name that supplier?
Answer: The quarry identified at the site visit was for the gray stone aggregate in the photo in the specification booklet. The quarry name is New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co., Inc. and they are located at 1575 Baltimore Pike, Gettysburg, PA 17325. They do not have an approved ‘mix design’ for the concrete. Contractor will need to provide mix design samples for approval.
14. Question: Placards, Interpretive Signage and Supports - Will the NPS remove all?
Answer: No, Removal of Placards and Interpretive signs and supports will be part of the Contractor’s work.
15. Question: Can a contractor provided dumpsters able to be placed in the a parking spot of Devils Den trail?
Answer: Only on a daily basis when approved. As stated above, the South Sickles Avenue and area around the parking lot can be closed on a daily basis when there is a request and approval with the Contracting Officer.
16. Question: Would the NPS share the list of all that attended the Mandatory Site Visit?
Answer: No, the sign-in sheet will not be provided.
