About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document for an audio-visual system upgrade project at Canyonlands National Park (CANY), providing technical clarifications for potential contractors. The document addresses installation specifications across two locations - ISKY and Needles - with different ceiling types (drywall at ISKY, drop tile at Needles).
Key technical requirements include: all equipment must be TAA compliant, speaker wire will be surface mounted, existing DVD player/VCR will be reused, and wiremold must be used for surround speaker cabling with no wall penetrations except for display mounts. The contractor is responsible for any required backing for TV mounting at both locations, though the walls are confirmed to support the weight of large displays (including an 85" display at IITS). Equipment substitutions are permitted for similar price/quality items, and while a keypad control system is acceptable, preference is given to simpler, cost-efficient solutions. The specification confirms there is existing conduit from the AV rack to the front desk, but no auxiliary HDMI input is required for laptop connections.

Questions and Answers CANY AV upgrade
Q1 - What type of ceiling is in each area. (Drop tile, drywall (inaccessible from above), drywall (accessible from above, etc...)?
A: Drywall at ISKY; drop tile at Needles.
Q2 - Is there conduit from the AV rack to the front desk?
A: Yes
Q3 - How will speaker wire be run? (If not a drop tile ceiling? Surface mount, etc...?)
A: Surface mount
Q4 - Will all gear be powered on/off with the mfr. supplied remote?
A: No
Q5 - Can we substitute gear for similar price/quality?
Q6 - Does all equipment need to be TAA compliant?
Q7 - Can we use a keypad instead of a single button and remote to control the display on/off, volume, and start/stop?
A: Yes. However, preference is given to the easier, most cost efficient method.
Q8 - Will the old DVD player/VCR be reused in the new system or is the only source the Digital Media Player?
A: Reused
Q9 - Do they want an auxiliary HDMI input to connect a laptop to the displays?
A: No
Q10 - Is there a pathway for wiring the surround speakers or is all cabling to be done via wiremold?
(no wall penetrations aside from display mount)
A: Wiremold
Q11 - In IITS, can this wall hold the load of an 85” display? Are they installing the backing for the display mount or are we responsible for providing/installing?
A: Wall can hold weight of TV. If backing is required, it is the responsibility of the contractor.
Q12 - In Needles, the display pictured is in a cove resting on the credenza. Any display larger than what’s currently there will require wall modifications to mount it. Will NPS be filling in this cove and if so, can we get a drawing of the new construction? If not, this poses significant challenges to installing in that location. The wall doesn’t appear to be a normal/solid wall that can hold the weight of a large display.
A: The wall is solid and will hold the weight of the TV. If backing is required, it is the responsibility of the contractor.
