# Questions Answers
Please advise on the following clarifications requested by the manufacturer.
Can you please clarify with them if they require, either:
AYC Premium 24 x 1/2" Medium Handsplit Shakes Thickness: minimum 1/2" Length: 24" Width: 4-14" Exposure: 10"
Or
AYC Premium 24 x 5/8" Tapersawn Thickness: 5/8" Length: 24" Width: 4-14" Exposure: 10"
AYC 24" x 1/2" Medium hand split shakes with a 10" exposure and width's of 4" - 14". Heavy shakes would be preferrable (5/8" or thicker), but if not available, 1/2" would be considered.
What are the size of the ‘hand-split ‘shake you are you requesting; 24” and/or 30”?
24"
Are you wanting two different size of shakes?
Or one size that is all the same lengths?
1 size - 24"
The solicitation requirement is for 24 or 30-inch length shingles. The supplier states 30" shingles are not available. The longest shingle produced is 24", but is not an industry standard. This is due to AYC wood and its characteristics being difficult to split correctly.
That is why the industry standard is held to splitting 18" products only.
Are 18" AYC shingles acceptable?
Are 24" AYC shingles acceptable?
24" minimum
Would Western Red Cedar shingles be an acceptable substitution? If so, what length?
Western Red Cedar is not an acceptable substitute.
Can you advise which building the shingles will be used on at the Lincoln Memorial Site?
Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial.
