Seismic and Wind Requirements

Seismic Requirements, IBC-21 Section 1704.3

Description of seismic-force-resisting system and designated seismic systems subject to special inspections:

The seismic-force-resisting system for this project varies by building. The North and South building have plywood sheathing on the roof that acts as a diaphragm. The diaphragm shear is transferred to the walls using shear straps. At the North Building, the shear walls are Light-frame (wood) walls sheathed with wood structural panels rated for shear resistance. At the South Building, the shear walls are masonry reinforced shear walls. The Aeration Basin and Clarifier have ordinary reinforced concrete shear walls and are buried mostly beneath grade.

Special Inspections for the wood seismic-force-resisting systems is not required per IBC 1705.13.2 as the structures are in seismic design category B.

Special Inspections for the concrete seismic-force-resisting system is not required per IBC 1705.13.2 as the design spectral response acceleration at short periods, SDS, is less than 0.5.

Wind Requirements, IBC-21 Section 1704.3

Description of wind-force-resisting system and designated wind systems subject to special inspections:

MORU - 272051 01 45 33B - 3

The wind-force-resisting system for this project varies by building. The North and South building have plywood sheathing on the roof that acts as a diaphragm. The diaphragm shear is transferred to the walls using shear straps. At the North Building, the shear walls are Light-frame (wood) walls sheathed with wood structural panels rated for shear resistance. At the South Building, the shear walls are reinforced masonry walls. The Aeration Basin and Clarifier have ordinary reinforced concrete shear walls and are buried mostly beneath grade.

Special Inspections for the wood wind-force-resisting systems is not required per IBC 1705.12.1 as the project is in Exposure B and the wind speed is less than 150 miles per hour.
