The Trading Post consists of approximately 5,098 gross square feet (building footprint) and approximately 3,818 square feet of net usable area. About 70 percent of the building will be rehabilitated for visitor use, consisting of a visitor contact area, interpretation and/or display areas and public restrooms. The remaining 30 percent will be rehabilitated for office space for park staff. The existing space must accommodate all equipment, such as HVAC, electrical, etc. No additions to the existing building are proposed. The exterior of the building and site will provide setting and features consistent with the significance of the property and the park¿s interpretive goals for enhancing the overall visitor experience of the Trading Post.

This building is an example of a typical Northern New Mexico vernacular adobe building. It is a low (one story), sprawling, U-shaped building, which began as a 600 square foot, one-room structure and grew through a series of additions to approximately 5,000 square feet. The building is listed on the NPS List of Classified Structures (LCS), and has been ¿Determined Eligible¿ for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places, with a national significance.
