Text version
Normal, general sequence of events: A required prework conference is held the day before spray application.
The helicopter can base overnight at Tyrrell's fenced compound. Volunteer hosts live on site for security, and the compound has security cameras. However, the Government cannot guarantee the aircraft’s security.
During spray day, a required early morning operational and safety briefing is held with all BLM and contractor personnel. Personnel then travel to Section 9. BLM personnel set up monitoring drift cards in certain orchard units. The pilot flies the helicopter to Section 9 helispot. The pilot can fly over Douglas Creek (creek with salmon) without insecticide on board. Once drift cards are in place, personnel are ready, and the helispot manager gives approval, operations can commence. Once spray operations are completed for Section 9, the pilot shall apply rinsate to designated areas.
Past applications have been completed in one morning by around noon when winds generally increase beyond allowable limits. However, the Government cannot guarantee that this will always be the case. The contractor may have to suspend operations waiting for favorable weather to allow spraying to continue later in the day or on a subsequent day when weather permits.
The pilot shall not fly over Douglas Creek with insecticide on board the aircraft, and the boom, nozzles and tank shall be rinsed with water after spraying.
