About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers file for two Bureau of Land Management drill seeding projects in Oregon-Washington: ESR North (140L4325Q0079) and ESR South (140L4325Q0096) for Fall 2025. The Q&A covers critical operational details including seeding specifications, performance constraints, and logistical requirements. Key details include: seeding will occur in fall (not spring) using drill seeding methods, with an average seeding rate of approximately 10 pounds per acre at a shallow depth (to 1 inch). The Vale District will transport drills between treatment areas (Durkee and Coyote, approximately 85 miles apart), with contractors responsible for drill movement within each fire area and returning equipment to designated staging areas. Aerial application is not acceptable due to lower germination success compared to drill seeding. The specific drill configuration involves a 3-drill cart formation, with each drill being 10 feet wide, creating a total 30-foot wide seeding implement.

Questions and Answers 30 July 2025

140L4325Q0079- ESR NORTH DRILL SEEDING FALL 2025

140L4325Q0096- ESR SOUTH DRILL SEEDING FALL 2025

1. Regarding ESR South and North seeding projects, the solicitation state work data sheet will be given after award. We need to know average pounds per acre and depth for seeding.

0. The Work Data Sheet will include that information. The pounds per acre vary, but the average is around 10 lbs / ac and depth of ¼ to ½ inch. The Work Data Sheets are not currently finalized.

1. Is there any way the period of performance can extend to a spring seeding instead of the fall?

1. No, we do not have good germination with a spring seeding and have had issues with mud in the past.

1. How many drills would be provided and what is the size of the drills?

2. Number of drills depends on the awardee's equipment availability for each location and timing of implementation.

2. The drills are in a 3-drill cart formation. The drills are 10 feet wide, so the 3-drill cart is 30 feet wide.

1. Would an aerial application be acceptable?

3. No, drill seeding have a higher germination success rate than aerial.

1. How far from the Durkee seedings is the Coyote fire?

4. It is approximately 85 miles between the Durkee treatment area to the Coyote treatment area. https://maps.app.goo.gl/FBADF5rWkqpyukwa7

1. Would drills need to be hauled, or can they be pulled to Coyote?

5. The need to be transported.

1. If hauled, will the District haul them?

6. The Vale District will relocate the drills to each fire, it is the contractor's responsibility to move the drills throughout each fire and to return them to the designated staging areas.
