About this file

This document is a second set of Questions and Answers related to Solicitation 140L3924Q0141 for the CTIC Fire Supply Water Storage Tank Cleaning project.

The key details are:

  • The water for cleaning the tanks is from a well that also supplies the CTIC's drinking water. Additional water, if needed, is the contractor's responsibility.
  • The amount of sediment in the tanks is unknown, as they have not been cleaned in 5-7 years. However, sending water through the existing 8" line to a hydrant would be sufficient for cleaning.
  • A confined space crew is required to clean and inspect the interior of the tanks, but no additional tasks beyond that are currently in the scope.

140L3924Q0141 CTIC Fire Supply Water Storage Tanks Maint

Second set of Questions and Answers

1. Regarding the discharge process, it’s not typical to discharge through a hydrant during cleaning due to the risk of sediment damaging the pumps. Could you clarify how water will be supplied on-site?

A1: Water is from a well that also supplies the CTIC's drinking water. Diagram below shows how water is pumped into the tanks. If additional water is needed, it is the responsibility of the contractor

2. Could you provide details on the thickness of the sediment within the tanks? Would it be sufficient to simply wash it through the existing system?

A2: Unknown amount of sediment, the tanks have not been cleaned in 5-7 years (possibly longer). Yes, sending water through the existing 8" line to hydrant would be sufficient.

3. Do you require a confined space crew solely for washing through the existing system, or will there be additional tasks involved?

A3: Yes, a Confined Space Crew is required for inside the tanks. Only cleaning & inspecting the interior of the tanks (with a video & written report), additional tasks are beyond current scope.
