Questions and Answers:
1. Could you provide a map of Unit 11 in the Lands End area? It looks like perhaps it was cut off of the map provided.
Answer: (SEE ATTACHMENT IN AMENDMENT 0001)
1. Could shapefiles of the proposed survey areas be provided prior to the offer due date?
Answer: (SEE ATTACHMENT IN AMENDMENT 0001)
1. During the desktop analysis stage, can areas be discounted and not surveyed based on habitat suitability for the target species? (Eg oakbrush)
Answer: If an area can be definitively identified as a non-habitat then, yes it can be excluded. It is important to remember that the Jays use areas of mixed mountain shrub with scattered openings for foraging. Mostly this is sage brush, but other species of shrubs can be utilized. Oak is typically not one of the shrub species utilized.
1. The Corcoran Wash section states that “possible that areas that are void of Pinion Juniper forest type be swapped for other project areas”. Could you expand on what is meant by this statement?
Answer: If there is no PJ there is not nesting habitat, where most of our concerns lies so could be eliminated from survey. Possibility of acreage that doesn't need to be surveyed, swapped for other project areas that could be surveyed.
1. Portions of the survey areas overlap with private lands and other public lands managed by the USFS. Are these areas to be excluded from the survey effort?
Answer: We can’t authorize survey on non-BLM lands. So USFS lands will not be surveyed.
1. We are interested in submitting a proposal for the Pinyon Jay surveys located in western Colorado; however, we have a question regarding the survey acres. The solicitation states that a total of 15,400 acres will be surveyed. Does this include the 500m survey buffer or will the acres associated with the buffer be in addition to that total number? Also, if shapefiles or a kmz are available can you share that as well?
Answer: The 15400 acres includes the 500m buffer. The actual acreage will be less due to land jurisdiction. (i.e. we wont survey private land or USFS Lands). We can provide kmz., or shape files upon awarding of the contract.
