SECTION 011000 – STATEMENT OF WORK AND SPECIFICATIONS

GENERAL

SUMMARY

This work shall consist of furnishing and delivery of mineral material to two locations, Desert Wind Way and Prehistoric Trackways Roads.

Desert Wind Way: 3,710 tons of type II base course.

Prehistoric Trackways: 700 tons of type II base course.

900 tons of 4” minus rock
300 tons of fines

PROJECT INFORMATION

Project Identification: See attached map for delivery locations. The following directions are from I-25 exit 9 (Dona Ana Exit).

Desert Wind Way: From Interstate 25 at Exit 9 (Dona Ana), turn east onto County Road D036/Thorpe Road for approx. 394 feet. Turn north onto CO Rd D054/ Del Rey Blvd for 0.1 miles. Tune east onto Calle Las Lomas for 0.5 miles. Turn north onto La Reina Road for approx. 427 feet. Turn east onto Desert Wind Way for 1.9 miles to Dona Ana Trailhead parking area.

Prehistoric Trackways: From Interstate 25 at Exit 9 (Dona Ana), turn west onto NM 320 W/County Road D036/Thorpe Road for 2 miles. Turn north onto NM 185 N/ North Valley Drive for 0.4 miles. Turn west onto Co Rd D052/ Shalem Colony Trail for 1.2 miles. Turn west onto Co Rd D013/ Rocky Acres Trail for 0.2 miles. Turn west onto Prehistoric Trackways Road for 0.4 miles to large parking lot.

MATERIALS

The Work consists of providing and hauling road base material, 4” minus rock, and fines.

Road base consists of one (1) or more of the following:

Crushed stone Crushed or screened gravel Caliche Sand Recycled Asphalt Pavement (RAP) not to exceed 50%; recycled concrete pavement (RC) not to exceed 75%; and the combined RAP and RC not to exceed 75% by weight.

Processed glass aggregate

Road base does not contain organic matter or other Deleterious Materials, including silt and clay balls.

The Department will allow a maximum of 10% (by weight) processed glass aggregate, uniformly distributed, in composite Base Course. Processed glass aggregate shall meet physical properties and deleterious substance requirements in accordance with AASHTO M 318.

Unless the Contract specifies otherwise, combine the aggregate Materials, including processed glass aggregate (if used), in proportions that produce a homogeneous composite blend.

The following table is from 2019 Edition of NMDOT Standard Specifications for Highway and Bridge Construction.

Ensure that at least 50% of the Materials retained on or above the No. 4 sieve have at least two (2) Fractured Faces when evaluated in accordance with AASHTO T-335, “Determining the Percentage of Fracture in Coarse Aggregate”. Provide Base Course from a material source with a maximum AI of 35 when calculated in accordance with Section 901, "QUALITY CONTROL/QUALITY ASSURANCE (QC/QA)," a maximum LL of 25, and a maximum PI of 6. Determine the AI for the untreated natural aggregate source.

4” Minus Rock: Rock should have at least two (2) fractured faces.

Fines: Fines will crusher fines.

WORK PHASES

Delivery of base course will be done in two phases. Desert Wind Way will be done first. The material will be spread dumped on road as directed by personnel on site.

Prehistoric Trackways: Deliver base course first. The material will be spread dumped on road as directed by personnel on site. 4” minus rock will be dumped in piles as directed by personnel on site. Fines will be dumped in piles as directed by personnel on site.

If ground conditions change before or during delivery, order of material delivery may change.

Project manager on site will call for delivery scheduling. Once delivery begins material should be completely delivered in no more than 2 weeks for each phase.

PUBLIC USE OF SITE

Contractor shall at all times conduct his operations to ensure the least inconvenience to the public. Road closures will be permitted, when required, upon specific approval of Contracting Officer.

MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT

Method of measurement: The quantity to be paid for will be the number of tons of material furnished. Weighing of material shall be at Contractor's expense. A weight receipt for each load of material shall be furnished by the Contractor.

Basis of payment: The accepted quantities, determined as provided above, will be paid for at the contract unit price per the value Schedule
