About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file related to a federal contract opportunity for uranium-lead geochronologic analyses. The Q&A addresses two key clarification points about the requested scientific services. The first item involves U-Pb dating of 4 existing mineral separates, while the second item covers up to 4 additional samples that could be either U-Pb ages for igneous rocks or detrital zircon (DZ) analysis of sedimentary rocks. The document indicates that the specific pricing and approach depend on the type of rock analysis required, with the potential contractor seeking more precise details about the sample types and analysis needs.

Text version

Q1. From the wording of the RFQ, the specific number of samples requested is not provided. So you are requesting just an amount for each of the two services (mineral separation, UPb analysis) – correct? Is it possible to get specific numbers of each requested service?

A1. The first item is strictly U-Pb dating of 4 existing mineral separates.

Q2. The price for “Uranium-lead zircon dating” depends on the type of UPb analysis – detrital sample dating, or igneous sample dating. Could you please check with the primary and let me know if he/she is looking to analyze sedimentary rocks or igneous rocks – thanks.

A2. The second item is for up to 4 more samples, in this case, the analyses would either be U-Pb ages (igneous rocks) or DZ (detrital zircon analysis of sedimentary rocks.).
