About this file

This document contains questions and answers regarding a solicitation to re-photograph and measure Joshua trees at up to 15 sites within a 130 mile radius in the Mojave and Sonoran deserts. The contractor will be required to spend a minimum of 9 full days re-photographing and taking measurements of Joshua trees to create perfect matches compared to photographs taken over the last 20 years. The contractor must have experience replicating old photographs of desert landscapes and plants at several hundred sites. At each site, the contractor will measure 15 to 20 pre-marked Joshua trees, recording 29 measurements for each tree. The contractor will provide 8 x 11.5 inch prints with specified margins labeling the camera stake number and location. Reporting will include using the two critical data sheets provided. While a laser rangefinder may be acceptable, the agency has only used a stadia rod and is concerned different equipment could produce different results.

Q 1. In section 3.1, 3.1 A minimum of nine full days and up to 15 sites shall be visited for rephotographs and measurements of Joshua trees. Please clarify.

A 1. A minimum of 9 calendar days (= full days, daylight only) of work at up to 15 of the sites (sites to be provided to the Contractor) for rephotographs and measurements of Joshua trees. Or, there is a contract requirement for the Contractor to re‐photograph and measure Joshua trees during ≥9 calendar days at up to 15 sites. At the very least, 9 sites should be photographed, the Joshua trees measured, and work completed; however, the expectation is for more sites to be finished.

Q 2. In section 3.2.1 3.2 The Contractor shall have the following skills:

3.2.1 A demonstrated history of rephotographing plants and landscapes in the

Mojave and Sonoran deserts using old and new photographs and creating perfect matches for several hundred sites.

A 2. This project requires a Contractor with a demonstrated skill and ability to replicate exactly the old photographs by having a history of having created perfect matches for several hundred desert landscapes and sites with plants. Expertise is essential to ensuring the quality and perfection of the matches.

Q 3. Please clarify Is it a total of 15 sites with one tree per site or is it 15 sites with several hundred trees within the 15 sites?

A 3. There are multiple Joshua trees (e.g., 15 to 20) to be measured per site and the specific trees to be measured will be marked on a previous photograph. For each specified Joshua tree, 29 measurements shall be recorded.

Q 4. What is the radius, in miles of the total desert area for all locations?

A 4. Estimated 130 miles

Q 5. In the Deliverables area, what size prints are required?

A 5. Prints are on 8 x 11.5 inch paper with side margins of 0.25 inch, bottom margin of 1.5 inch with camera stake number and location specified.

Q 6. Can a sample of the reporting data sheet be posted?

A 6. There are 2 critical reporting data sheets (see attached)

Q 7. Will a forestry tree laser be acceptable in place of a Stadia Rod?

A 7. We have only used a Stadia rod and are concerned that different equipment is likely to produce different results, especially when the measurements must be done in the same way as performed during the last 20 years.
