Text version

Q: How many in-place inclinometers (IPI's)?

A: See page 2 and 3.

Q: What length bay-rod will be used with each IPI. The options are (0.5m, 1.0m, 1.5m, 2.0m, or 3.0m) A: 18x 1-m length (for the 0-18 m depth interval). 20x 0.5-m length (for the 18-28 m depth interval).

Q: Depths of inclinometers?

A: 38 inclinometers from 0-28 m depth.

Q: Segment lengths preferred for each inclinometer )(2,5, or 10ft)?

A: 18x 1-m length (for the 0-18 m depth interval). 20x 0.5-m length (for the 18-28 m depth interval). Inclinometer length >0.5 m will not work at >18 m depth due to borehole geometry.

Q: Will the IPI's be connected to each other in the boreholes or will they be connected by wire?

A: Connected to each other.

Q: Will you be using 70mm or 85mm diameter inclinometer casing A: 70 mm.

Q: How many boreholes.

A: One barehole.

Q: I will assume the data logging will be automated at the surface and collected weekly or monthly by visiting the site and connecting the logger to a laptop via a USB cable.

A: We want the Flexdaq logger with CR6 preprogrammed for the 38 bay IPI with a reading interval of 15 seconds and a cellular interface.

Q: Radio, Cellular or Satellite data transmission is an option, is it required?

A: We plan to set this up ourselves.

Q: Can you please tell us more about what you would like to detect or measure? There are many variations within our inclinometer group, and this will help us to better understand which sensor(s) might be beneficial for your design.

A: We are measuring deformation of a borehole that crosses the slowly creeping Hayward fault. We have measured borehole deformation using an inclinometer since its installation in 1993. We want to install an in-place inclinometer system that will enable us to measure borehole deformation with greater temporal sampling (every ~15 seconds is what we were told is possible). The borehole is cased with 70-mm RST instruments inclinometer casing.

Q: How many devices might your project involve?

A: We want to install 38 IPIs from 0-28 m depth. 18 of the IPIs will be with 1-m long bays (for the 0-18 m depth interval). 20 of the IPIs will be with 0.5-m long bays (for the 18-28 m depth interval).

Q: I would appreciate your response with exact item and part number is possible.

A: Below are all the part numbers and quantities that are needed for this installation.
