Statement of Work
Prepared by: Lisa Gaddis, USGS, Western Region, Flagstaff, AZ, Astrogeology Science Center
1. Introduction: Astrogeology Science Center, USGS, is contracted by NASA to process and deliver planetary image data for the international planetary science community. We have a critical need for development of an improved product (with updated position and accurate viewing geometry) for NASA’s Moon Mineralogy Mapper (M3) data.
2. Background: Astrogeology is working to complete delivery of geometrically improved Moon Mineralogy Mapper data following a multi-year processing effort. To continue to support NASA, this dataset needs additional processing to update the position and viewing geometry prior to public release.
3. Scope: This contract will result in delivery of updated M3 geometry and positional data with improved accuracy such that the products can be released for public use.
· Task 1. Evaluate and determine appropriate initial conditions (e.g., timing, camera and satellite pointing and spatial behavior) for M3 data processing with ingestion, jigsaw and related software in Astrogeology’s ISIS3 software.
· Task 2. Perform iterative bundle adjustments of M3 data to update surface locations and spacecraft positions such that the resulting data are improved prior to public delivery.
· Task 3. Deliver updated positional information (in the form of SPICE kernels, LOC and OBS files) and a new version of the Level 2 M3 product (with thermal correction and photometry normalization applied).
· Task 4. Provide summary of validation steps and results.
4. Technical Requirements: Contractor will utilize publicly available NASA M3 data archives and ISIS3 software and their own hardware, Level 2 pipeline software, data viewing and analysis platform for processing and product evaluation.
Contractor will have full access to USGS science liaison, Lisa Gaddis, for any questions or issues that may arise.
5. Deliverables: The products listed above will be delivered by the Contractor to the Astrogeology Science Center for public release. See Task 3 above.
6. Government Furnished Property: none.
7. Period of Performance: April 16, 2018 to June 15, 2018
