About this file
This document is a Standard Form 30 Amendment to a Solicitation for bat cages, issued by the USGS OAG Denver Acquisition Branch. Amendment 0001 incorporates Questions and Answers and extends the proposal due date to September 8, 2025, at 12PM ET, with questions to be sent to Justice Pryor at jpryor@usgs.gov. The Q&A section provides detailed specifications for bat cages, including material requirements (ASTM Type 304/304L stainless steel), fabrication details (1x1x18ga SS tubing, fully seam welded, TIG welded), and flexibility in design. Key design considerations include floor space (3.78-4.0 sq ft), cage depth, potential for removable panels, cage pairing options, and the ability to accommodate both bats and small passerines while withstanding autoclave temperatures up to 134 Celsius.

140G0225Q0135 Amendment 1 Questions and Answers
1) Are you open to existing bat cage designs we have on file or do we need to stick to the description in the Solicitation? We have built bat cages and have some ideas that might be of interest to you and the end users.
a. The design must meet or exceed the description in the solicitation.
2) Do you need a full 4.0 square feet of floor space or is the 3.78 square feet described sufficient?
a. If dimensions can be altered to create a more stable cage without sacrificing too much floor space, that is acceptable. We plan to use these cages primarily for bats, but regularly get small passerines that could be housed in these cages as well.
3) The 17” cage depth is a slight concern, possibly making the racks a little “tippy”. Can we alter the dimensions, keeping the same square footage, to create a more stable cage rack?
a. See above, but yes as long as not too much floor space is sacrificed.
4) Do you require a squeezeback on the cages?
a. Do not require one, but not opposed (again, as long as space isn't sacrificed)
5) Do you want the cages to pair to other like cages side to side?
a. Not required but acceptable. Would the racks just connect to each other, or does this allow the option of combining two horizontal cages together?
6) Do you want removable panels above and below the removable waste pan to allow for the option to create a taller cage, for additional flight room?"
a. Not required but preferred! If this is an option, absolutely.
7) "Do you have any drawings of what this cage/rack looks like? What material are they needing this to be fabricated with?"
a. We do not have drawings of the cages. Materials are typically ASTM Type 304/304L stainless steel minimum. We would like it fabricated with stainless steel, or something equivalent, that can withstand autoclaves reaching up to 134Celcius. Frame is 1x1x18ga SS tubing, fully seam welded to prevent harborage of bacteria and vermin. Welds to be smooth and un-ground formed via Tungsten Inert Gas process. (No MIG welds). Cage to have matte (media blasted) finish. Latches, pans and certain other features to remain polished or mill finish.
